So far in my not-so-illustrious eventing career (all two days of it LOL) I have been eliminated twice. Yes, that's 100% elimination, pretty impressive eh?

Last week it was for missing a set of flags on the XC course....this week it was for missing an entire fence on the XC course.

Tune in next week when our heroine misses out on the entire XC phase altogether!

Dressage (BE92) was much better this week, knocking a whole 10 penalties off last week's score to get 35.5. Scores were ten 7's, nine 6's and a 5 for the left canter because we broke for a stride or two. Got a 7 for paces, 6 for impulsion, 6 for submission and 7 for my riding.
Judges comment: "A little unbalanced at times. When more established, marks will improve."

Jumping we had one pole pole, which was mainly my fault as we came round the corner on the wrong leg and a bit unbalanced. Very happy with the round otherwise though, much improved on last week.

Cross country was a complete blast, J was really positive and attacking all the way round, but was easily gathered together when needed. Lovely through the double of logs and sailed through/over the owl hole that I had picked out as the trickiest fences on the course.
But, as mentioned above, I just cantered straight past number 11 on the course! Apparently the fence judge shouted at me but I carried on blissfully unaware ;)

I would have been 5th of about 17 in my class if I had gone clear XC- definitely sack the jockey time. Ah well, we had a nice day out :)

All in all delighted with our second day out, despite the elimination. I'm busy with work for the next fortnight or so but I'm wondering whether I should get another 80cm under our belts or move up to 90cm next...all thoughts/opinions/experiences are welcome!

Thanks for reading, here are some pics:

oh dear! Well done though, apart from the accidental elimination it sounds like you did fab! :) Your horse looked very smart too. If he gave you confidence round the fences I would move him up to 90, it sounds like he's not struggling at all :)

Gosh I love your horse!! Very smart.

Well done for a super day out regardless. Sounds like a move up to 90cm wouldn't be a disaster but I have no useful advice :)

P.S. All the best people get eliminated twice ;)
P.P.S. At least you made it to the XC; I got eliminated twice in the SJ for missing a fence.

I'm the worst in the world at remembering courses! The people on my yard call me 'garmin' as my sense of direction is so bad! I have got clear but been eliminated so many times due to going ars*ways on a course.

The only way i remember courses is to walk round with a phone and take pictures of each of my fences and study them for ages. That way, even if I'm confused going round. I automatically go towards fences i recognise

as well as that i make notes describing the course so i have it planned out in my head before i go.

Its honestly the only way I get around!

Tip - when you have walked the course, go back to the secretary's tent and look at the plan, and just check that you have seen all the fences. Do you tick off the numbers as you go round the course?

Nice pictures of lovely horse.

Thanks patriotic, there's combined training on near me this weekend so I might give the 90 a go there.

Well you look fab so I'd brush over that bit, onwards and upwards!

I went to a mini xc at my RC and managed to go the wrong way twice :o

Lol at least you didn't literally canter past the fence that was staring you in the face!

Ooooopsy Daisy :-S Third time lucky... you wait and see! You look super in the piccies, and he doesn't know you were eliminated :)

Thanks lex2501, that's true, she thinks she went clear :-)

Lol, thanks BeckyD, fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

Paddi22 you won't believe but I actually did all that. Walked the course twice, took photos of (almost) every fence and did the Course Walk app. I even by-passed number 11 when I was walking the course. You can see it in the pic of number 10 but no photo of number 11.

You make a very smart pair and to make you feel better I got eliminated at Aston le Walls years ago for missing out 3 - yes 3 XC fences :eek3:

In my defence I'd not been there before and walked the course with a friend who knew the place 'like the back of her hand'. Forget the minor details of fences being numbered Doh !

Ooops! But well done on a good day. You sound ready for a 90!
Thanks HotToTrot :-)

Lol, your friend sounds as good as me as remembering courses!

Nice pictures of lovely horse.

That's a good idea Orangehorse, I must try that next time. Check, double check and triple check LOL.

Hee Hee, oopsie! If the drawing is clear enough, try taking a pic of the map on your phone before you walk. That way you can walk the exact route from first walk, missing out all those "standing in the middle of a field trying to work out where the next fence is" moments, and you'll more easily remember which direction you took after each fence. Plus you can use it to check when you test yourself.
Agree though, as far as horsey is concerned that was a confident clear with just one strange fence judge who for no reason at all stood up and hollered- probably saying "good boy" for the lovely clear ;-)
