Sacked for coming 2nd with 65%......

Have you ever heard anything so rediculous?
I have just had a text, YES A TEXT! From my boss saying that she is incredibly disapointed with results from thursday and she needs to sell the horses and those results wont, so she is having to let me go!
Iv been there a month, and have had one lesson in that time, and this was 2nd time out, both horses behaved and i was pleased with them both, but evidently unless you win with 70% everytime its not good enough!
I am fuming!!!

I assume she is doing this all legally?
Were you on a probation period? It is exceptionally difficult to sack staff so you may have a case if you feel like contesting it.....

Employer should have issued contract within a month of you being there - unfortunately you won't be entitled to any severance pay as you haven't been there long enough.

If she has dismissed you within the first month of employment there is little you can do

If you were working cash in hand then you haven't got a leg to stand on, no matter how frustrating. If you were being taxed then you haven't been there for a year and without a contract, I'm afraid she's more than likely to get away with it.

Such a shame though - I guess you're better off out of there though x
 
I bet you she was never serious in the first place, waited for good results so she could write it in the advert...

Though it is difficult to tell from only one side of the story!

Possibly the horses haven't got 70% plus in them at the moment. If she thinks they have then why doesn't she go out & see if she can score over 70%.

if you've been there less than a year even with a contract you haven't any recourse when something like this happens

not fair but would you want to stay on with a woman who considers it ok to sack someone by text!? sounds like you;re better off out of there anyway

Thankyou Pixie, iv just responded and asked her to put it in writing, iv also told her i feel its very unprofessional to have done it over text.
Its like dumping someone by text. You just dont do it!

OMGG!!! That is utterly unbelievable!! What a nerve! You are definitely better off out of there! Some people are blind, some people are weird, some people have no manners and it appears some can be all three! Hugs!
 
Sounds like she is an idiot to me. If 2nd place was 65% maybe the judge was just being particularly harsh that day?? Did the winner get over 70%?

Daft woman obviously has no clue and you are better off out of there.
 
That woman must be insane!! I can't believe anyone would do that. I've seen photos of you riding the new horses and your wonderful mare and I've always thought you looked a very natural dressage rider (I don't think that about many people lol). I'd be tempted to tell her to look at any of the "big name" riders results as they don't always get 70% percent either. I'm shocked by her behaviour

I would spread the word (carefully) about how you've been treated so that everyone who needs to know will not go near her with a barge pole.

Sorry you've been so badly treated. People like that give our sport a bad name.

What is it with people in the horse world?

They moan about the lack of grooms and then pay the ones they have peanuts, give them crap accomodation and expect them to work all the hours god sends. While they sit by their swimming pools! (generalisation I know!! LOL!!) And they sack them on a whim.

A friend of mine was made redundant and then the employer suggested that she could stay in her flat and work for free if she wanted!

Apologies to good employers out there as I know there are some, but the exploitation of employees in the horse world is still rife.

It really pigs me off!!!!
