Hi all,
My loan mare has a lump just under her belly by her right back leg (right in the crease) if ya' know what i mean! it is not under the skin... it is on top pretty flat dark coloured with little lumps on top!has had spray stuff on it and treated and owner thinks its slowly going down but im not convinced. owner recons its where her rug has rubbed her (she hasnt been rugged since begining of april), and i got her mid april and im convinced it wasnt there then,i would of noticed it im that kind of peron!i believe observant is the word!,any ideas what it could be? i have posted something like this similar before and got told it could be a sarcoid after not knowing what this is and doing research i belive it is:( i had tears in my eyes when i read what it was and told my mums friend down the yard that i had doen some research ect ect, told her what i thought it was and she said"oh no,dont say that, it could be" i havent told owner what i think it could be yet as im only young and hes in at least his 60's and been round horses all his life so i dont want to try and be seen as "out smarting him" needless to say it always sitting in the back of my mind and i dont know what to do , i will never forgive myself if anything happens:( and i know it can be expensive to treat and the idea of him not being able to pay out will break my heart, so i understand its very difficult without a picture but im going down tomorrow to see her and ride so will take a pic then.
But ANY help comments advice experiances please help.
any help appreciated
Thanks

My arab mare has loads of sarcoids. As long as they don't interfere with tack etc, my advice would be to leave well alone. I've had various treatments, each one with differing results. They can be quite aggressive if they're treated and are likely to grow back bigger or appear elsewhere on the body. You'll find lots of people will recommend various treatments but please please don't do anything unless guided by your vet.
Sarcoids are a pain, granted, but most are purely a cosmetic worry. If they're bleeding / ulcerating call the vet. If not, just keep an eye on it, take pics and monitor on a weekly basis.
Ive had 4 treated now using Liverpool Cream (vet) and banding (vet) and each time they've grown back. Im now putting Sarc-ex supplement in her feed and just monitoring them daily. My mare is healthy in every other respect. If they need treating again, i'll get them treated but only upon veterinary advice.
If i were you, i would tell the owner and then maybe get a diagnosis from your vet. If its not causing your horse any pain, im sure he'll be fine. If in doubt, call the vet. Good luck x
