Not sure if I'm being paranoid but I had a lesson last night (very tough one - flatwork), and suddenly my horse felt underneath me as if he was counter cantering. The instructor said he didn't look lame so I continued and agin he felt very odd and wooden underneath. I pulle dhim up and again he wasn't lame but I finished. I gave him a bute last night and again this morning and lightly free lunged him tonight as he's only out for a couple of hours. He wasn't tracking up on his off hind and kept swishing his tail so I decided to give him a lovely massage/groom with the little black curry comb. He absoloutely loved it until I got to his near side area just below his loin and in front of his hip. He freaked! Clearly VERY sore there. I don't know if he's just very very sore from overdoing it in the lesson or what the chances are of him having pulled something major. Going to lightly excercise him in-hand and not ride him and carry on with some gentle tennis ball massaging and the bute for a few days? From reading about sacroiliac problems, this does sound like his symptoms...... i'm not one to get the vet out for silly things but this one does concern me.....

I would get the vet out but I think he has maybe just pulled a muscle or ligament in that area rather than major sacroiliac discomfort/ disorder. But if the pain increases or he starts bucking or bunny hopping behind than I wouldn't rule this out.

Hope it helps :)

I had a horse on trial who failed the vetting on sacroiliac problems, things that I thought were 'just him' turned out to be symptoms! He bucked when asking for canter on right rein. He always put two strides in a one strided double. On right rein lunge he threw his head round but not on left. He was very week over his sacroiliac region ligaments were very soft. He was slight A symmetry. I was told by the vet that it can be an injury and needs rest - only time would tell if it got worse if I bought him, if it did then 6 months turned away. If it didn't worsen then it was just his conformation and they would have said carry on and review him if any obvious changes occurred. I didn't buy him. See how u go but I'd get ur vet to check it out u don't want to make it any worse. Let us know how u get on.
