Scampi why are you ignoring the practical advice you are being given? As MV says, there is always a way.
Can someone who has had their horse destroyed by the hunt, tell me how much that is?

I think it really varies per hunt. The last one I was with when it was destroyed (not my pony, owner didn't want to be with her but didn't want her to be 'on her own') was just £50.

How are you going to live on this holiday..?
Airport parking/ spending money/ suntan lotion etc etc etc
All add up to a pretty penny..
I've just got back from an all inclusive with my girls on fuerteventura and I spent over £ 500 even with all meals thrown in.

My local hunts price list:
Collected Prices

Cattle - 0—6 months £12
Cattle - 6—24 months £24
NO CATTLE OVER 24 MONTHS CAN BE ACCEPTED

Pigs/Goats - £12

Sheep / Lambs - £12

Horses - £200

Ponies (under 14.2 hh) - £100

Shetland Size - 60

Hardly a lot of money to raise

Sorry, just have to ask.........why are you putting them both to sleep? or querying about a sanctuary? Do they both no longer have a quality of life or is it you cannot afford to look after them anymore? :)

If the latter, can you not find grass livery to bring costs down?

I have been corresponding with Scampi by PM. She is not ignoring practical advice given, and is working hard for a resolution to her difficult situation.

The holiday is also not hers to 'sell'.

The last horse I had destroyed by the hunt cost £175 (Glamorgan Hunt). It will probably be less for ponies.

Update us when you can or feel able to Scampi (((( ))))

I'm really sorry you've found yourself in this horrible position. I do think the local hunt is your best option. If you're going to have them PTS then you won't need any of their equipment any more so you should be able to raise enough money selling their stuff on ebay to meet the cost. Equally once they are gone you won't have the cost of feed etc, so if you can borrow the money from someone for a few weeks you should be able to pay it back with what you would have spent on keep?

You say you have more than one that needs pts?

I'm afraid they really are your responsibility and any reasonable horse owner should have made provisions or planned this earlier in advance. It is not fair to expect charities to take on your old horses just because you can't afford to have them pts.

I go by what other's have said - hunt or your other option is to call the RSPCA and explain your predicament, they do have the means to humanely destroy horses, however it would be prudent to also offer a small donation in return as it costs the charity money to fund this.

Agree to a point with what you are saying here.
However, I do not have a nest egg or any kind of savings put by for my horse in case I hit hard times. We can't afford to save anything if I'm being frank.
If we did hit desperate times, feeding my children would take priority over my horse anyway. I would however, find the funds to have him euthanised and disposed of.

Actually - we recently had to find £950 for our dog after he nearly died twice!
Thank God for credit cards is all I can say.:D

Sorry, I know I'm new and I don't comment much but I'm confused OP, in the past few months

".... O/H has got to take some holiday before beg of April we were thinking of going away abroad for a week but only to some where hot (otherwise we won't bother until summer!)

Anyone any ideas where would be hot but not too pricey?"

Doesn't sound like "won".

gym membership?

"what do you think of this saddle"?

weekends away with a ''new'' o/h...

"I'm graduating (undergrad) on Thurs! Need to go and buy something to wear.... what does everyone wear? eeeek!!"

sorry to sound unsympathetic but there seems to be money and time for everything but the ponies? Perhaps doing a few hours work would raise the funds? I genuinely hope that you can find a solution that is in the best interests of the ponies.

Ah sorry it just looks that way going by what posts she's choosing to reply to on this thread!

Scampi, find out what your local hunt will do it for and then come back and tell us what that amount is, then people can help you plan what to do.

I wish I won holidays like that.

Not hers to sell? Maybe so, but her place in that holiday is hers to sell?

If oh is genuine enough to take her away surely he'd help with her beloved?

Just seems a quick way out of ownership to me, and I'm afraid you saying she's pm'd you this and that won't change my mind.

Oh, you're entitled to think what you like. I was just clarifying for the circling vultures that the OP is taking on board the practical advice offered.;)

I've no practical advice to offer over and above what's already been suggested but I hope Scampi has been able to benefit a little from your PM conversations... :)

I agree re the holiday...

I'm sorry but the whole scenario just seems very irresponsible. I haven't got x amount of money knocking about to pay if my horse needs this extra or that extra but when it comes to something as serious as pts then I'm afraid you have to make very big sacrifices and if it means going into debt temporarily then so be it. It hardly costs an arm and a leg to get a horse pts. What's a £100 or even £200?!!!! I've had to wrack up nearly a grand on my credit card which I am still battling to pay off now in order to cover the excess from my insurance and additional treatment for my horse recently. Don't like it but not once did I even question whether I would do that or not. It had to be done.

It does appear that OP has put on other threads that she is spending her money on other things. None of anyone's business appreciated, but very annoying when they then post threads like this.

Ah, to live in Moomin land where £100 or £200 is no big deal........

It isn't a big deal when your horse's welfare is at stake. If it is a big deal, then someone shouldn't have horses. If people take the decision to have horses, they need to be in a position to do what's right for them.

circling vultures that the OP is taking on board the practical advice offered.

Amymay, I was just asking a polite and pertinent question wondering why some of the stupid people (myelf included) who wasted time posting sensible offerings were ignored in favour of answering other more antagonistic posts.
Seems a little bit rude when people have taken the time to try and help but hey ho, if voicing that query makes me a "circling vulture" in your opinion well, that I can definitely live with

You are 100% correct. And I absolutely agree. Life, however, has a nasty habit of biting us on the bum when we least expect it.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge the OP. Where's all that compassion, sensitivity and constructive advice you're always on about???;)

Ok, I'll dumb it down for you, as I'm sure op did when she convinced you on how much her horses mean and the real reason she wants to get rid

£200 is not a large amount of money when you own a horse. I doubt that would cover more than 4 Weeks upkeep.

£200 cash in your wallet to go out on a Saturday is a large amount of money.

Do you understand now? Or are you going to tell me your horse/s cost you £200 a year?

P.s excuse sarcasm.

Too old/condition to ride. Yes, i asked about loaning out as a companion in another thread but in this climate i don't think many people are taking on companions.

WELL

why dont you try find them a home before thinking no one wants them??
free papers card in shop window preloved etc
why can you not afford them now has financial situation changed.

Think you owe it to the ponies to try find as home for them . How about putting a picture of them on here they might attract someones attention .

OP has given the reason for her wanting pts for her old horses as tIhe fact that they are old and cannot be ridden. Why not just keep them yourself OP and let them live their days out?!! Or is it that you want to then go and buy a horse to ride?

Amymay, I have offered constructive advice to OP. Take responsibility for her own horses, stop spending money on clothes, holidays (yes - she will need spending money for hol) etc etc, and bump up the money to get her horses pts.

Still confused as to why OP wants them pts though.
