I had to have my 8 y/o PTS a couple of years ago. It's very hard, but the most caring thing you can do.
You obviously have great love and respect for your horse, and, in your circumstances it is the responsible and best thing to do.
The waiting must have been awful for you. I made sure my mare had an absolute dream of a day on the actual day. She was happy for the first time in months.
I'm hoping you will be feeling a little calmer when it's all over. If you want to talk PM me.
(((((BIG HUG)))))) you are doing the right thing you can not keep a horse that is in pain I am SHOCKED about the vet saying to put it through a sale.
xx
There are two sayings which seem apt, one from an old farmer friend of ours, who said it when our hand reared foal lost his battle to live 'when you have livestock, you have dead stock', and the more sympathetic 'better a day too early than a minute too late'.
My thoughts are with you and you should be proud to have made the decision, rather than letting him go to an uncertain future.
Quirky you have made the correct decision IMO you are one of the responsible owners who will not see their horse in pain or pass the problem on to someone else.. I will be thinking of you tomorrow ((((Hugs))))
Follow your heart and ignore hard headed comments. You know what is right and you know your horse better than anyone. I feel so sad for you but also have great respect that you love your horse enough to not let him suffer. I hope I have that strength when the time comes.
Huge huge hugs to you.
