Sad cruelty story from Ireland

Possibly a treatment for sore shins, or firing it or something. It's a horrendous sight to see fired legs, and horses have to wear a cradle to stop them biting at their legs.

should think you are right J, its not good but the horse was hardly 'eating its own legs' and they havent got their fact quite right somewhere cos horses can still 'stand' with flexor tendons severed. i hate these stories they are bad enough with out spin and sensationalism.
 
No, it isn't. I saw the pictures last year in the paper. And as someone who worked in racing all my life, it was quite different than firing. I can't claim to know what did or did not happen, but it was shocking to see the pictures and it was not normal. And also, it's why people use cradles if injuries or firing occurs.
