Ive had my horse for 8 and a half years but finally my decision has to be made to have him put to sleep. After 6 months of trying to put it off I cannot prolong it for him. I was looking for some help on costs of cremation I live in weymouth Dorset and need somebody local. Any help would be appreciatiated
Thanks

I not long ago had to have my horse put to sleep because of a brain tumour, but he loved hunting and his party trick was to jump out of the field whenever the hunt went by and join in. they brought him back a couple of times :) but when it was time i called the hunt. They were very good and didnt rush, gave me all the time i needed. So from past experience, They would be my first call. I looked into vet's & cremation and found it to be so expensive.

Sorry to hear your sad news. I'm not local to you but when my horse was PTS last year and I wanted him cremated I organised it through the equine hospital where he was. I'm sure your vet would be able to recommend somewhere, if not you sometimes see adverts for cremation services on tack shop noticeboards.

Money wise - insurance usually puts some money towards 'disposal', I think my insurance company (NFU) paid out £250 then I paid for the rest. I had the choice of group or individual cremation (chose individual), then whether the ashes would come to me in a special casket or not. I chose to just have them in a cardboard box as I scattered them. I think the total cost was £400, with £250 paid by the insurance company.

I hope that helps a little, thoughts are with you.
