We have had a sad few weeks and lost 2 horses at my yard, plus my friend sadly said goodbye to her old boy this week.
First was Frankie. He'd had suspensory problems 8 years ago, and his owner took the decision to operate. She went on to compete and have lots of fun with him, but sadly he went lame a couple of months ago, and the ligament started to break down and there was nothing more could be done. He was a big gentle giant of a horse and we and his mares will miss him.
Second was Alize. Weekend before last, there was a bit of a kerfuffle in the field, and tragically, he got kicked and his leg snapped. Was very traumatic for everyone there, but luckily, someone was in the field when it happened, and the vet was there within about 20 minutes.
Thirdly, earlier this week, my friend who I made at the first yard I was on with Dolly, lost her old boy Sasha. He would have been 35 this year and she'd had him since he was 4. He was colicking, and the vet did what he could, but sadly age was against him. I rode him a lot in the past and he was always naughty for me! As a child growing up, he was the horse I dreamed of owning. A 15 hand, bay gelding! Not one of mine fits the criteria
Not sure why I posted this, I think am feeling a bit down as Mac's arthritis has been bad the last couple of days, and although I know it has been caused by him being silly in the field and acting like a 2 year old, it makes you realise how quickly they can be taken away.
