Sad loss of Carrot

So sad :( Those two ponies are just a reminder of what the people on here can do when we all club together. Have been following their story, its nice to know they both got the best care possible at bransby in their last few years
. RIP Carrot, Run free old boy xx

Sad news, but such a fantastic last few years they had together.
RIP Carrot, may you run free with Spud once again.

So very sad to hear, but wonderful to think of them being reunited - and may we always remember that incredible time when we all pulled together on here to make possible the time they had at Bransby - ending their days happy and well cared for.

RIP Carrot and Spud

RIP Carrot, I can't believe it's been two years since those horrible pictures. I hope he and Spud are together again and happy.

I never knew their story, I wasn't active when it happened, but looking back on that thread and seeing those pics have brought tears to my eyes :(
What a wonderful job you all did <3
R.I.P Carrot and Spud

RIP Carrot. Reunited with Spud once again.

Will never forget that day, my phone was going non-stop. Goes to show what HHO can do when we all pull together. Big well done to Bransby too!

Found a couple more pictures when they were still in isolation not that long after they were taken to Bransby.....

I had a packet of polos in my pocket that day and they shoved me around the paddock - literally until they had eaten them all!

They were very cheeky boys!:D:D:D

They were at that. So full of life which was amazing considering all they had been through. The power horses have to forgive never ceases to amaze me.

They know when people are trying to help them:) Carrot had NEVER loaded in nearly 30 years and yet he walked on the trailer with no fuss as did Spud - even though by then their'owner' had turned up and started shouting:mad: They recognised his voice and went from being the relaxed ponies they had been to being tense BUT they still got on the box to come with us - they knew we were helping them:)

From the very first morning at Bransby Carrot became the chief ring leader and diva:D:D:D He would start kicking his stable door as soon as the first person arrived and had to be fed FIRST even though they have nearly 400 horse and ponies to look after:D:D:D

Rest in Peace Carrot & Spud, I'm glad you knew love & affection & happy days in the end, look after each other and enjoy the grass in horsey heaven xxx

this post just reduced me to tears. I will never forget when that post was made. I was at work and literally glued to my phone with my colleagues asking for updates every few minutes. They always had such kind and loving eyes and seemed so trusting despite all that a human had put them through

RIP, run free

Was any action ever taken against the owner??

Or an investigation made in to the vet who thought their condition acceptable??

There was no prosecution. The owner signed them over to Bransby. As for the vet..........the practice lost several customers but it is so large they probably never even noticed, and, unfortunately, memories are short. :( (The owner was as revolting as you would have imagined him to be)

I remember the original thread about Carrot and Spud being one of the first ones I saw when I joined HHO. I'll never forget those pictures - Carrot looked like he'd break if you so much as patted him. It's lovely to see both boys looking fat and happy even if it wasn't for as long as they deserved.
RIP Carrot sweetheart, run free

I think this post whilst sad, in so far as Carrots life at Bransby was shorter than might have been hoped, is also an incredible reminder of the power of this forum and the good it can do.

Sometimes the forum has been accused of being a nasty bitchy place but then when you read stories such as this, operation Ester and Janets update on Ruby (to name just a few) you see what amazing things can be acheived when like minded people pull together.

I might be being a sentimental old sod this morning but it does make me feel quite proud.

Lets hope the 2500 people reading this might be motivated into giving just £1 to Bransby or another equine charity. Think of the good that could achieve this Christmas for the next Carrot and Spud xxxxx

A huge round of applause for Bransby, for looking after Carrot and Spud and making their time so much happier and healthier. Most of all, an even bigger round of applause for all the forum members who worked so hard to rescue the two old chaps. What a wonderful lot you are. Well done.

Well done to Bransby for giving these two, and many others (I've just looked at their website and am appalled and full of admiration at the same time) the chance of health, happiness and love.

Donated £10 in memory of Carrot and Spud.
