I have some very bad and sad news for every one. Last night there was a terrible accident due to the 90m/p/h winds, strongest we've had in 30 years! Well as I was saying there was an accident, and I just want to say RIP to our dear loved shelter who was only 4weeks old! Here some pictures of the sad sad scene!

Anybody else have damage done last night, where I live there are trees down everywhere, and our stable was destroyed and the door of my tack box at another yard was blown off!

west coast, and no not repairable, most of the wood is split and it all blew to about a 70metre radias of the original site! Luckily no-one was hurt and the horses are fine but seem a bit spooky this morning, don't think they were in it, or they got away fast!:o

yeh could have been alot worse... touches wood! Horse have been turned out to the big paddock so they dont get hurt on the nails ect. so hopefully things will go smoothly now... again touches wood!!

Sorry to see your destroyed shelter - your horses had a lucky escape!. I can confirm that the weather conditions in Scotland were appalling last night and today. Thankfully there was no damage I'm aware of at the yard I'm at but there were trees down all over the place and I saw 3 overturned HGVs on the M74 this afternoon.

and yeh defo thank god! It was a close shave too because a little laminitic pony was meant to be stabled there but luckily she was in the barn instead

Aww poor shelter! And glad no one got hurt

I'm on the other side of Scotland, but it was still wild here today and last night. Horses were kept in all today, so Morris was in a bad mood! Not any damage done to the stables tho.

yeh we are all glad the lami pony didnt use the stable after all. And very lucky there were no accidents, had they been behind the shelter then we could and most likly would be saying RIP to more than a piece of wood! As I belive a piece of stable flying at you at up to 90m/p/h might indeed cause more than a minor injury!!

And seeing as no-one has said it and I feel kind of sorry for him..... RIP tackshed as he also was involved in the accident! The only survivor was hayledge-box with some servere injurys and might not survive with all the pressure of the wood leaning on him.. so good luck to him, hope he survives!!

Thank goodness none of the horses were hurt! im sure they know to keep away from buildings and trees in high winds!

When/if you replace the shelter, if you remove a couple of boards all round just below the roof (the top two or three boards of at least the back wall) it will help as the wind goes through the gap and doesnt lift or destroy the shelter. Im sure someone could explain this more scientifically how it works but it does work for my neighbours whose stable block and shelters kept flipping over in the slightest winds!

Well the thing is, that was already done! and the wind wasnt blowing into the shelter, rather onto the side of it, badly put up I think!! But thanks for the advice :P

God, one of my worst nightmares! I had some damage last night - feed shed window blew in and then had to evacuate my three horses to the local farm at 11.30pm as my stables where deluged by flood waters and poor horses were standing looking very soggy in a foot of water. Roll on summer.....(as long as it's dry!).
