I haven't posted on here for a while but for those of you that followed the story of my mare thought i should share the very sad news that she died before Christmas.
She was on a breeding loan and bred a gorgeous foal who was born in June. Sadly she was taken ill very suddenly on November 21st with colic and was put to sleep. It has taken me this long to be able to type these words.
She had never had colic in her life or even needed an out of hours vet so it was a huge shock. She was only 10 and really enjoying her new vocation as a mother and was in foal again.
It just goes to show how fragile our horses are and what a silent and unexpected killer colic can be.

I was thrilled to hear that she had bred a beautiful foal, and had followed your previous posts on her.

I am just soo sorry to read this news. You must be devastated. (((((( ))))))

I can't remember you post but I am very sorry for your loss

.

Do you have her foal, or do you have the option of having it?

I am so sorry to hear your news.

I lost our little mare, Tweenie, in October in similar circumstances. Like your mare, she had never needed the vet in the 5 1/2 years we had owned her, apart from routine vaccinations.

The one and only time we called a vet to her was the night she too died from complications after colic surgery. She'd never colicked before either.

I completely understand the enormity of the shock. You have my full sympathy. It's heartbreaking. I thought our little mare was as tough as old boots and would live till she was 30....she was only 12.

RIP to your mare and hugs to you xx

Thank you for your post. Interestingly i was told that there is some sort of pattern in the changing weather (summer/autumn/winter) and the most severe colics being seen.
My girl's was catastrophic, one minute she was absolutely fine and the next was in complete distress. By the time she was given anything by the vet it was already too late and there was nothing that could be done apart from help her on the way to peace. She still had her foal at foot so it was absolutely awful for him too.
Hugs to you too x

So sorry to hear that. I know exactly how you feel having lost my gorgeous 2 homebred filly Millie in June to colic. Totally out of the blue and no obvious cause, it is so traumatic....

How awful, we never think it will happen to us then bang- it hits you so hard.

I lost my horse 3 months ago now and i still feel quite raw about it and often cry at ramdom moments so i know how you feel. Unfortunatly i had to decide to put her to sleep but i wish the decision wasnt mine to make it was horrific.
