We have (had) four rats. One for me, my two sisters & my brother.
Fed them some toast last night at 7ish, got them out for a play. Then checked on them about midnight before we went to bed & my sister's rat was curled on the bottom of the cage, nestled in the newspaper dead

She hadn't been dead long as she was still warm.

We were all upset but my sister especially so, obviously. Pudding (my sister's rat) was only about 6 months old too. All the others are fine & they've had food that was no different to normal. Nothing in the cage etc etc.

She was 'only' a rat but she had a little personality all of her own so RIP Pud, we all miss you

Here she is a few months ago (Pudding is on the right of the pic)

Not sure why I'm posting this really but it was so sad to see her like that. I don't think she died in any pain & she might have only been 'just' a rat but she was a little person with the personality she had.

RIP little one xx

Sorry for picture size, it won't re-size for some reason

Oh im sorry to hear about Pud - I had Hamsters Whiskey and Frazzle and had one rat - "Slinky" broke my heart when she died - she was a very old lady though. They are very chatty and fun as pets.

Though I do hasten to add I despise yard rats and mice and sure wont tolerate them!

Oh no. Poor you - they do die quickly ....have had rats for years but its just so sad that they live for such a short time and have such great personalities.

Nancy and Delilah (my ratties) send their condolences. xx

So sorry to read this. Actually I think rats are very underestimated. They're really quite endearing, although I'm not keen on them in stable yards and feed rooms.
Condolences to your sister.

T_R; they make great pets & she was such a cutie. Yes, I feel the same about yard rats but fancy rats are totally different.

samualhorse; Yes, you're right. She was definitely an individual. Bit of a cheeky monkey with food hence the name!
Thanks xx

Apalacia; Yes they do. The thing that shocked us most was she was only about 6 months old. They have fantastic personalities & yes, a real shame they don't have the lifespan of a dog or similar.

Daffodil; I think so too. They are very intelligent & friendly creatures. My one will curl up on my lap to sleep like a little kitten

Thanks guys. I'll show her this thread as I'm sure she'll appreciate your comments xx

Aww RIP little Dumbo Pud, its horrid when you loose any creature.. I was heartbroken when Ying my Topaz passed away still get sad now, over the years ove had about 30 rats but for some reason he will always be top rat.

ive kept rats for about 11 years now and they all develop different personalities and make fantastic pets. (Cannot Stand the wild ones though) Hugs to you and your sister

RIP Pudding. Very cute rats in pic. Your poor sister it's horrid when they go but at least she didn't appear to be in pain and went in her sleep. They were the best pets I ever had, so intelligent and they all had their own funny ways. I kept them for 10 years and want some more. It is lovely to hear there are fellow rat fans out there

Poor Pudding.

I had 2 rats years ago - Bubble & Squeak - they were very friendly. I didn't have any more as they don't live long enough.

They're not 'just rats'!! I lost my cat on Friday and if anyone dare it she was 'just a cat' I think I'll punch them. They are much loved members of your family!!

Big hugs for you & your sister.
