I am fiercly against the Death Penalty but he has committed the most horrendous crimes and the about of people he killed is dreadful. It may be better for the country to see him go.
Though I think it is the right verdict (I think the death penalty should only be used in exceptional cases of evil doing, such as this, where there is no doubt as to the guilt of the person) and will be very welcome to much of the population, I fear the responses of his remaining supporters (and there are many I understand) are likely to cause yet more deaths and misery.
I agree that may be the right verdict, but its an easy way out for him, saying that though he would have a life of luxury in our prisons these days, xx when i say easy way out i dont quite literally mean easy, if you get me xx

WHAT???
1) Prisons are there to punish people by taking away their liberty. They are not there to inflict any sort of additional punishment.
2) The cells are still cells. They might have TVs and playstations in some cases (according to the right-wing press), but then if you are in a small room all but a few hours a day, without access to friends, family, the pub.

ooh yes good point, im quite gullable i believe everything i read in the papers, xx
I don't agree with the death penalty, i think they should be locked up in prison and have to live with the guilt, but in this extreme case i think sadam hussein should get the death penalty, after what he's done i doubt he has a conscience(sp). Also agree with huggy bear.

i really dont know if these people have "guilt"

The scariest part is knowing that a person is capable of giving an order to mass murder innocent women and children, and many others, and then sleep at night.
yes thats what i am saying, i doubt many serious criminals, or even petty criminals if there is such a thing have guilt, and if they do show remorse it i usually to escape a harsher punishment.
With the trial being held in America and the fact that he was such a dictator, I believe that the sentence was always going to come to this end.
Even though he's committed so many crimes, war cimes etc, I find the sentence, which I believe to be hanging (correct me if I'm wrong), totally and utterly. barbaric. The thought of hanging sickens me. And as cp1980 pointed out, this would be lowering ourselves to his standards.
Like I said, with the trial being held in America, I thought it would come to this, but the sentence seems to be one that would be one that the Iraqi civillians would have chosen, because he affected them so much. I know Americans have suffered, but I think it would be more justifiable for me if Iraqis had sentenced him, because they have more of a reason for it.
To be quite honest, I find this sentence a typical American reaction.
I find it quite shocking that America has gone from being such an isolationist, to a country that wants to be involved with so many world issues over the past 80ish years.
Do a bit of each sort of torture he had inflicted on those he punished for 'crimes against him'. Not enough to kill him, though. Then hang him with a very uncomfortable rope.
And by an all Iraki court of justice... Problem is, if they hang him within 30 days (that's the plan) he' ll get away with the 12 other legal suits hanging over his head for similar atrocities against his fellow countrymen, and that's a damned shame as far as I'm concerned.
His sentence will never measure up to the horrors he's guilty of...
