One can only hope that such a public video will lead to repercussions - reminds me of the video of the woman filmed kicking the pony. She was prosecuted irrc so maybe (hopefully) this one will be too, and banned from ever working with animals or children again. That pony knew what was coming IMHO from how it reacted when she picked up the pole.

Hadn't yet closed the browser when it got deleted so here's the text:

I feel I need to explain exactly what went on in December when the video was taken with the “Dun mare Echo“horse.

Echo was not a riding school horse, she was bought for me. The rider in the video is my friends daughter who wanted to ride a green horse over the Christmas holidays. She is a very competent rider and was helping me get Echo past the nappying stage that she developed. Echo was very stubborn and nappy at times in the school when being asked to move forwards, this resulted in her running backwards refusing to go forward. Even with the riders hands forward, voice commands and leg aid she still refused to move.

We did do lots of ground work with her and out hacking. She was absolutely fine, it was just occasionally she would nap in the school and try it on.

I could have got a lunge whip and used that on her like someone suggested, but I chose not to as I’m not a whip fan, i find these harsh and I wouldn't like to have a whip whacked against my backside, so instead I waved a hollow plastic pole behind her to try and make her go forward. When this didn't work, I did POKE her with it on her backside to encourage her to move forward.

I can't get my head around how this would be classed as abuse but a sting from a whip would be okay!?

Don’t forget where the video is angled….

For the safety of the rider and the horse I needed to get her away from the fence as I didn’t want her getting her legs through the fence or to rear up and fall back onto the fence.

After she went over the mounting block, you can clearly see I pulled the block out of the way to stop her hurting herself on it. She then went backwards again so I threw sand at her rear end to get her to go forwards which unfortunately didnt work, so the plastic hollow pole came out again to encourage her to go forward.

People might say why a pole??

Well… firstly a prod with a hollow plastic pole isn’t going to sting like a whip and to be honest, the mood she was in I didn’t want to get close to her back legs, so for my safety as well as Echo's and the riders', I thought a pole would be better so that she could see it and it would also maintain distance whilst trying to encourage her to go forward. After she got her backside wedged in the gateway I thought leading her away is my safest option as if she tried to strike out with her front legs, I was in a better position to move out of the way so I continued to lead her.

I’ve worked with horses a long time and at no point of my career have I “abused” a horse. All of my horses are well kept and I’ve got great passion and love for every single horse on the yard. People that know me know I would never do anything to hurt an animal.

The horse was sold and the 3 months schooling paid off as she never reacted like this again. She passed a 5 stage vetting and now gone off to a lovely home. The horse was never ever miss treated whilst in my care.

Videos are taken out of context and you only saw a snipet of the 30min session.

Maybe people shouldn’t just judge on a minute video, I’ve had horrendous messages off people I’ve never met because they don’t hear what exactly happened.

That day the safety of the rider, the horse and myself is all I was concerned about.

I’m sorry if this has upset anyone but please find out the truth before sending threats and making judgement.

By the way the person videoing was a child that has recently left my yard as a livery due to a fall out.

Cyber bullying has a major effect on peoples wellbeing. PLEASE STOP THIS.

I must admit I was shocked when I initially saw this on Facebook - I used to work with Emma when we were both late teens/early twenties and wouldn’t have thought she’d do something like this but am appalled at what I saw! How people can change!

What utter cruel morons. They clearly have no idea what so ever and should not be allowed in charge of any animal. They have zero idea how to handle horses and any competent equestrian would have paid for some professional assistance with the pony. I sincerely hope they sell up and step away from the horse world.

Even if she had only “poked” the horse with a plastic pole (it did look like more than a poke) it was the horses fear of being hit with a pole that I found so upsetting. If that was the measure of frustration she gets with this horse she shouldn’t be working with her. I can’t believe she tried to justify herself too. It was a shocking watch.

I read the 'explanation' before seeing the video so wasn't sure what to expect but...what?!

She lost her patience/temper, fairly plain to see. The attempt to twist it into something thought through and acceptable 'training/schooling' is just really shocking.

Also why is she going on about poles being better than whips when, as far as I can see in the DM video, it also got a good couple of cracks on the backside for good measure as well?

It's made the Daily Mail, and the RSPCA are aware of the video footage.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...plastic-pole-riding-school-crashing-gate.html

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: 'This footage is upsetting, and we are looking into it and would urge anyone with first-hand information about this incident to contact us on 0300 123 4999.'
Yup, RSPCA been involved since Friday afternoon.

Interesting having weeded out the top rubbish on line reviews (following this beating) that reviews 2 years ago noted about the new owner - an aggressive rude younger person - was letting the place go to ruin
