I've been given a lovely (albeit second hand and well used)old english leather saddle to use on Millie if it fits. The saddle is in pretty good condition given its age, there is no obvious damage to the tree and all stitching is fine, however it deffinatley needs reflocking. I've put the saddle on Millie, though not ridden in it, and to my untrained eye I would say it was a good fit. So to the point, given that the saddle is oldish, would it be worth getting the saddle reflocked and getting a saddler to check the fit or should I just get a new/newer second hand one? Does any one know of a good saddle fitter in west yorkshire? And finally does anyone know roughly what it would cost? Thanks, Millies.

Defo get it checked, doesn't matter how old it is, ring round a few and ask them to quote for fitting and flocking as necessary

You will only know once a fitter has seen it. Callout has to be paid anyway, full reflock is anywhere upwards of £50, and that's cheap. Make sure the person you choose has a good reputaion (I would start a new thread asking for saddle fitter recs in your area) and that they fit correctly ie they watch you ride in the saddle before and after the flocking. Sometimes it really isn't worth throwing money after an old saddle, sometimes it is.

I used to ride a friends horse in the saddle about 7 years ago, and I love the saddle so if it fits Millie and could be reflocked that would be great. Il have a ring round of saddle fitters in the area. thanks

Fox saddlers in wetherby have a good reputation in the area and I've always used them to fit and I'm sure they reflock too. Also they are quite good in my experience at fitting you in quickly, hope this helps!
