which do you prefer to use?

I would like to have a nice long hack out and take a pack up lunch etc with some friends before the weather completely turns.

I have heard some people say that it is dangerous to ride with a back pack on and wondered on your thoughts........

I've ridden with a backpack, and it was incredibly irritating. Every single time we trotted/cantered, it bounced up and down on your back grrr. Saddle bag I'd say.

I'd avoid a backpack - I used to wear a small one when going on long hacks on a traffic proof horse. Horse had a silly spook at a bird flying out of hedge, backpack moved and made a slight noise and horse practically went into orbit!

The reaction to the noise of the pack was worse than the original spook

I agree - back packs bounce about and are really annoying. saddle bags are great. I've got one (not sure where it came from) and it attaches in two places on each side of the saddle so it doesn't move at all and has lots of room in it. xxx
