any recommendations please ?

I am thinking of a double, behind the saddle type, max £20. Able to carry two cans of coke, a map, camera, etc.

I like the look of the Shires one, but have seen several more that do look similar, so any suggestions, do let me know.

Thankyou ! :)

drinks, maps, keys, hoofpick, chocolate (or course), polos.....not too much really, but I'm sure as I go along, there'll be more going in...

well you may find it tooo big but fo rthat you could buy like a bridle bag shires do a nice one i have it but its long(i can get bridle, martingale,a few bits, gloves, drink, keys, etc the list goes on forever and its all neat and tidy.
or for just that you could buy like a hat bag again shires have a nice one that could easily hold that with room to spare just go and have a look at a few :o

btw i mentioned a hat bag because they can squash down and the shires bridle bag has fitment along with the hat bag to fix onto the saddle :D not sure what you think of them

No use sorry but just a heads up (but your probably not as stupid as me.)

I went on a hack once when I was about 14 and my phone was in the saddle bag. I fell off pony buggered off down a very steep hill and there's me running after him. I couldn't even warn anyone at the yard so they just had a shock when my hairy pony mooched into the yard.

Moral of story don't put phone in saddle bag. :)

Fab ideas, thanks both of you :D. I think I want to go for a double as I don't want it bouncing around too much, if that makes sense. Now if I had a hat bag already.......but mine is kept on a shelf, bagless. Maybe I need a hat bag for that now too ;)

Thank you for this link Lucinda_x - I am going on a trail ride in Montana later this year one of these will be great for all the little bits I am worried about losing - passport, ticket home, digital camera, shades!
And ride western at home so could encourage me to go for longer rides. I do use a bum bag round my middle (for the mobile phone) and not forgetting the note inside which reads next of kin and phone numbers!
Thanks for this useful post. ;)

Koko, you've made me smile :) I always keep the phone on me, but I'm having that summer "problem" with jods not having pockets, and my darned arm band holder slipping down my arm/leg. Or my jods have a miniscule pocket and the phone rises up and plops into other areas....

Now if someone invented an arm holder that stayed in place, without you having to lean against a wall or something to tighen it so that it stays on longer than five minutes ...

I've found that putting it in my bra works quite well. :o

When I buy joddies now though I always make sure they have a zippy pocket on the outside for my phone. :)

Although not panniers I think it is a good idea, it's called a banana bag and sits behind the saddle. Like a bum bag, it has a zipped pocket and a reflective stripe which can be seen a fair distance away, it also has a led flashing light so it's a safety thing as well.

WOW I REALLY like that :D I'm a bit of a pink hi vis girl, much to the boy's embarrassment, and this would really be seen from behind.

Thanks so much :)

I used to use a panier when I hacked out on Benson. Bearing in mind I am diabetic, I usually had chocolate with me, but one day I forgot, so took some lucozade.
Abought an hour into the ride, felt I needed some, so unscrewed the lid.....and got covered with spray! It went everywhere. Yep, we had just had a canter! Had to hack all the way home with swarms of wasps following!

I've got the Shires one, used it on a fun ride and it was great :) AND it kept everything in it dry despite the pouring rain!

For summer I have a reflective with zip up pockets :D

Sovereign Quarter Horses have got some of the AQHA saddle bags on their online store www.sovereignquarterhorses.com . I've got a gorgeous pair of Italian leather saddle bags which are really neat - picked them up several years ago at Badminton and they are brilliant, fit perfectly on the back of a Western saddle.
