Does anyone know if I have to get the cob saddle from the saddle company as opposed to the standard one for my Welsh d? He is not your barrel shaped, flat as a table cob and is currently in a mw saddle I think. Approx 9" d to d currently. Any ideas? I have asked the sc via Facebook but they tend to take a few days to answer and I'm impatient!!

Thanks but the sc one is adjustable. And cheaper as can get it second hand. Can only find pony size npsc ones for sale

I have ridden in two. I liked the first, except it was not happy with the fit, by the qualified fitter. Very low on withers. I bought one for my Dales and it fitted fine but it was not really comfortable for me so I have changed now for wide leather GP. The lightness is great but I find the seats small to the measurement. Look on Preloved if you want second hand. Mind sold quickly. I think the theory re fit may be better than the practicality. All horses are different.

Was the one for your dales pony a cob saddle?

Yes. It was wide at 11" D2D. My dales is easy to fit with level back etc. It didn't move and had a choice of 4/5 straps. I only used usual 2/4. As she doesn't need point strap. Don't really know why anyone would want the back one either? Looked like new after months of use. It was a Verona, so faced with leather only. I would recommend if it suits, but would recommend trying before purchase.

I got the cob sc saddle. But I'd speak to your saddler and see what they recommend. My mare is extremely wide with no real wither and fits beautifully but I'd talk it through with your saddler.

We had a SC Verona on our 15hh cob. The fitter said his conformation would have suited a WH saddle better as he had a lot of shoulder movement, but these are harder to find. He moved much better in it and an instructor who knew him well noticed the improvement immediately (she didn't know we had changed saddles). My daughter didn't find it as comfortable as his old saddle until we put a seat saver on.
If you live locally to me you are welcome to borrow it before looking for one. We lost him last year but I am hanging on to it as they are handy saddles to have.
