Just wondering, if I was to buy a second hand saddle company saddle off ebay, would it be able to be adjusted width wise to my horse? Or are there other different tree shapes etc? Are they completely adjustable or do they just not suit some horses?

I'm not sure about SC saddles but I do know that when my pony was fitted for an adjustable saddle the saddler bought a van load but only one brand, one style and one size fitted him

I did this, bought the saddle 2nd hand and it was changed from narrow to wide to fit my boy and it was re-stuffed for the best fit. Ive still got the saddle 6 years on, i just get it checked and altered yearly if needed

Thank you both.

Do they have different tree shapes or is it a case of fitter adjusting width and re stuffing to fit? Which model do you have flyermc?

I have ridden in the half leather, half suede gp one before on a different horse and found it very comfortable.

Its a brown working hunter, its half leather have suede and synthetic under. Im not sure about tree shapes, but im sure there are probably horses that they dont fit, like any made of saddle, mine is on a welsh D.

I will say that they are only as good as the fitter!!! i had a brilliant fitter to start with, she then moved away so got another, who was terrible (not the saddles fault!) so found another, who again is fab : )

I love my saddle co saddle and even better it only cost £200 2nd hand and was more or less new!

They don't fit every horse. They can be adjusted in terms of width at the front, but if the tree shape doesn't suit the horse's back, that can't be changed. I had several - dressage and GP - and despite adjustment and even sending back to SC for complete reflocking, they didn't fit my horse.

Saddle company fitters have re-templating machines. The tree can be adjusted to any width at all and it's not taken out the saddle to do this. As with any saddle they don't suit every Horse.

This. The width is adjustable but no the shape of the tree. Think of it like a wintec or Tgood - only the gullet width is adjustable.

However I do love my SC - I have the event, half suede, half leather with synthetic under, had it 2 years and ridden in constantly with hardly any care but lasted really well. I got it for my exracer as I wanted to be able to adjust as he changed shape, but wanted something much more forward cut than a Tgood (which also fitted him) that gave enough room for his shoulders.

Thanks that's interesting as I did have a thorowgood T4 which fitted him, it's just that I hated riding in it. If the tree shape is similar then a saddle company saddle should fit him too?

My friend has a couple of SC saddles for sale if you want details, I seem to recall they are either 16.5 or 17 inch and would be the shape used on cobby types.

I have two SC saddles. A working hunter and a GP. The WH is on my Haffy and has been adjusted from xw to medium and now to wide.
The GP is on my New Forest. She started off xxw and is now W. Both fit really well.

Edited to add, both off ebay and fitted by a SC fitter.
