Any experiences please before I buy one?

I am looking at one online which is reasonably priced £180 for a Verona? Is this reasonable?

How adjustable actually are they? Can it be adjuste a few widths?
How smart do they look? Could I use it for low level competing an still look smart?
Oh and I've heard something about flaps wearing funny?

If anyone has any photos I would be very grateful!

Only other option is a throowgood t6 but they are more expensive at about 400? What would you go for.

Sorry for all of the questions just don't want to waste money if it's not as adjustable as I thought :)

I looked at these saddles a while ago and a few people at my yard have them. TBH, not impressed. They do look very smart and would be fine for competing, however, they do wear a bit scruffier than other leather saddles and the older ones look tatty, I suppose that also depends how well looked after they are.

Make sure you ride in it first. I didn't get on with them AT ALL, uncomfortable and made me feel quite insecure.

You need a Saddle fitter that specifically does these saddles. the one in our area moved away, so saddles need to be sent away for alterations. No use imo.

I felt I got far better value for money buying a good quality (new looking) used leather saddle (Ideal). Regarding the flexability, I would still end up with a better saddle selling mine if he changed shape, and getting another good quality used saddle. Also, the Ideal tree can be altered a couple of times and most saddles can be adjusted to fit with flocking. If your saddle needs drastically adjusting, then its the wrong saddle for the horse in my opinion.

Littlen, they are extremely adjustable and can accomodate an amazing amount of alteration within the musculature as the underside is serge so very forgiving. at £180 for a second hand saddle you are getting a bargain - new they are now over £600. However you do need to check if you have a Saddle Company fitter in your area as.

that's a very good price! Have you seen pictures of it to ensure its in good condition?

This is my SC saddle which is for sale in almost new condition. What I would say is that teh seats are very snug sitting in a 17.5" seat I looked like I was in a 17" seat! I have been happy with it and the leather on the seat is lovelly and soft. This saddle is one of a kind though as I asked for a two tone specifically.

If its in good condition you could be in for a bargain! I have posted pics of mine below so you can compare them:

Thanks everyone!

Palminomare out of interest why are you selling, due to seat being too small?
I expect its way out of my budget....

Baileyhoss thanks for that, it is a worry as I am buying unseen (proberbly ebay!) as I cant afford a new one really. Saddle fitters have been out to try and fit a conventional saddle and I do usually get one that fits, but within afew months it will start to slip as it seems he is very hard to fit and keeps changing shape. I thought with these at least I can just get it adjusted?

sort of! I have lost weight (slowly putting it back on mind you...) and so the seat was too big for me as i have quite a bouncy warmblood. I have actually had it for 2/3years (loose track of time) but its been unused due to my horses injury so its not that I don't like the saddle.

I had just bought a wow for my other horse as she took well to flair following back problems caused by an old ideal saddle i had (not saddles fault) but she broke her leg 1month later so i gave it to my horse that had the SC saddle as i fell in love with it!

Oh right I see :) It is a beautiful saddle!

I would love a full leather one as the thing that puts me off the SC verona is the part synthetic bit. I would be worried that the synthetic wears differently to the leather etc. I have looked and searched for a full leather but they seem to be like gold dust!!

I have the working hunter model and love it...I feel very secure and comfortable in it. More importantly it suits my part arab who changes shape quickly and has some muscle wastage around his wither. It's also incredibly lightweight which is ideal as he's getting on a bit. I've had it for two years now and there are only the most minute marks where his stirrup leathers go
