I'm buying a new saddle and would really like to have some custom welting/piping added to it. Nothing fancy, just something to personalise it a bit. However, the company only offer this on their higher price saddles. Has anyone ever had an off the peg saddle customised? If so, how did it go and where can you find such services????

Do you mean the welts on the seat or the facings on the panel?
One is much easier to do than the other.

I would like to have a coloured strip at the bottom of the cantle and piping at the joins on the saddle. I love the Bliss saddles but they were just out of my price range. Something like the attached.

It might be worth contact Dave at The Saddle Company.

The SC do the customisation that you are looking for. They make their saddles in house but taken in other brands for flocking and repairs (Dave is/was a Master Saddler) and are very reasonably priced. It might be worth contacting them to ask if they would modify your saddle

When Oz talks about facings they're the piping running down the front of the knee pads and pommel, it looks like you need a saddle made from scratch.

I would research good fitters, and brands, for your situation and go from there. I've not heard of other bench made makers refusing to do this, it just comes with a customisation cost, but it IS more hassle, the risk of a falling out if the saddle doesn't quite work out (there are no 100% guarantees in this world) and the either the customer of the maker end up out of pocket and/or with a saddle that won't sell easily.
