Okay, so before anyone starts I KNOW opinions on here cannot replace that of a qualified saddler. I HAD a qualified saddler coming out yesterday, I couldn'#t be there so Dad, who has the week off work kindly went......and waited........and waited.......... he never turned up

ANYWAY, have contacted another who is going to phone me back tomorrow but reckons it'll be 10-14 days before he can fit me in.

It is a Wintec dressage saddle. Horse in question (and in pics) really needs to pack on the weight and muscle so I do (hopefully) anticipate him filling out, so probably going up.

Anyway, it is a Wintec Isabelle Worth dressage saddle. I have all the Wintec gullets and was really just getting saddler out to see what gullet was required and fit a new one.

Current gullet in it is a medium.

What do people think??? Too narrow, too wide or about right?

Is it a cair one? Only fit will be different when in the saddle. You can get gullet gauge from wintec or I bought a flexi stick from wh smiths that you draw on a template you can print off the site. Does not negate need to get saddler in but would give you better idea. My Isabell werth is cair but still needs some flocking to get it balanced even with the right gullet in.

Can't really tell from them pics, I'd say u need a proper side on view and a front view of the whole saddle as can't really tell how it sits on the shoulders and at the back. At a rough guess I would say its sitting down slightly at the front causing the back to lift so probably needs reflocking but again the pics aren't great IMO

Sorry just read your post again and you wanted to know bout the width. I'd still say its was about right but maybe in need of reflocking

In the rear view pic it looks as though the back is lifting up, although it also looks like his spine is curved (not standing straight) so difficult to tell.

It certainly looks like the gullet is giving his back enough clearance. The seat also looks pretty parallel to the ground.

The problem is you can't tell what pressure points there are from pics! (meaning- the pressure is distributed evenly and not more in one place like behind the stirrup bars etc)

Who have you booked to come out? Ive always used Bob Judd and would definitely recommend him!

Well hopefully the saddler can shed some light. Just really wanted to be riding in it asap as hate schooling in his GP but not looking likely. Gah.

Only two photos are needed - a whole horse conformation shot on level ground, stood up square, saddle girthed firmly with no pad, as you have. Unless you can see the ground you can't tell if the saddle is level, sorry. Second is from the front, stood by horse's head, showing not only the clearance at the pommel, but a better view of the flaps and an idea of how the points are sitting on the horse, close ups of the pommel and/or points aren't too much help.

Tree width is not the same as front to back balance, hence you need both photos. Ie what I'm saying is that just because a saddle is down at the back does not mean it is too narrow, you need to see the tree width and the balance to get a fuller picture.
