Hi, could anyone recommend a dressage saddle please for a high withered dippy backed TB? She is currently in a gfs pro event 17" MW which fits well. Thanks
Hi Nudibranch, thanks for replying. I haven't tried anything on yet, she's 15 and an ex-racer so I'm just hoping to get some suggestions for similar tree shapes so I can source something second hand and have the saddler fit it.
I will have a look at the T8, thanks
Maybe go for another gfs I bought a lovely gfs dressage saddle for £250 some years back and loved it I only sold it in the end as I had nothing it fitted.
I have a older style Wintec Isabel for my ridiculously High withered / poor topline TB and it fits him well, and has the advantage of being adjustable. Had it years and love it!
Are you set on getting a treed saddle? when you have an unusual shaped back sometimes treeless can be better.
Of course you should get it professionally fitted as you will probably need it shimmed to suit her back shape. But least you are restricting any shoulder movement and hopefully the pads can be removed as she builds up topline etc
Have a look at solution saddles - they have a gorgeous dressage saddle! my friend with a tb rented one for a week before deciding to buy - she took out one of their payment plans so she didnt have to pay all in one go.
How dippy is the back? And do you know if she was born with it like that or is it age?
If it's the latter I would be doing groundwork, lunging and walking in hand to try and see if I could get the core working properly and the back muscles lifted along with some physio and then re-looking at saddle fit a few weeks or months down the line.
If she is truly sway backed and was from birth then I would go for something with a good dropped panel like the ideal impala or wow do a panel specifically for sway backs
Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to pick up something second hand as she's a 15yo ex racer, I'm not expecting to get that many years use out of the saddle so would prefer not to spend too much.
Was hoping some of the more widely used saddles such as a Jessica would be suggested as they are so much more readily available second hand.
She's high withered but lacking topline, she's been back in work for approx 6 months after 5 years off for various reasons. She's done quite a bit of walking in hand, over poles etc before progressing to ridden work.
Much as I love treeless I was never happy with them for the shark fin mare I used to have. Unless you stick a Suberpad underneath (great for muscle wastage btw).
