i have had a nightmare with a well know saddle fitter in our area and it would appear im am by no means the first person who has the same complaint! my question is who do i complain too? i have been sold a saddle that clearly doent fit and has caused behaviour problems with my little mare, knowing this wasnt like her i changed her saddle back to her old one that well know saddle fitter said didnt fit and what do you know behaviour instantly changed back to normal. id like the fitter to take the saddle back but dont know how to go about it, if this is not an option i would like other people to know and be aware before going to him. if i had of listened to him who knows what damage could have been caused, saddle was purchased in january second hand made by fitter and re flocked 8 weeks later another 6 weeks passed and problems occured again i was told to go back for another reflock at a cost of £100 a time (for flock and fuel to fitter) this was silly, what should i do? many thanks
Having had almost exactly the same problem and having emailed the SMS on several occasions, never to get a reply, I can tell you that option is not worth your effort.
I would contact him and explain, get a second opinion in writing if possible and forward a copy of this to him.
If you get no satisfactory response and you're really going to take this seriously, I imagine the next steps would be trading standards, and possibly the small claims court.
But just be careful - are you using a saddle FITTER or working with a Master Saddler? if its the former, then the society of Master Saddlers won't be able to help..
Is the saddle fitter SMS qualified? If he is then you MUST complain to the SMS. You probably wont get anywhere because they are a bunch of dinosaurs but they should still be made aware of the problems, as one day it may help prevent another horse from suffering discomfort because of the fitter doing a bad job.
If the fitter isnt sms qualified then you dont have anyone to complain to.
In either situation you should contact the fitter and explain your complaint, so they have a chance to rectify it. Ditto to what ladybird said
