Hi,

I live in the Maidstone area in Kent, up to now I have used a really good saddle fitter but poor health means that he is not always avaliable. This week my horse's saddle was getting tight and I needed help. Do you have any recomendations for me?

I want someone who is intrested in fitting MY saddle not a new one everytime! i also do not want to be sold gimmicks and told I need to go treeless because he is a cob! Been there, he goes better in a tree! I want a supportive, friendly person who is intrested in my horse going well, I know they are out there because I was lucky to have such a saddler and if not for his health he would still be doing it!

Sorry about spelling, spell check not working for me today!!

Try Michael Uden. He wouldn't sell me a new saddle, I asked him to bring some very expensive dressage saddles out which we tried, and at the end of the day, the saddle that fitted me and the horse the best was the one I was already using. He adjusted the flocking and it;s like having a new saddle anyway. I really liked the fact that he could (like so many other big name saddlers near us) have just sold me the most expensive saddle he'd brought with him, but he was totally honest, which I value.

Chaskits Horse and Rider - her name is Karen Jones..

She won't just try and flog you anything - she really does have the horse and your best interests. Was very happy with her and when my mare loses a couple of her extra kgs :( I will be getting her out to Surrey to check all is ok.

When a friend of mine needed her to - she also worked with her physio to asses and potentially resolve back pain.

Definitely would recommend her.

Good luck

Here here for Karen. She has just fitted my Pony's saddle. BRILLIANT lady. Couldn't recommend her enough.

I'd suggest Peter Husband, but I'm wondering if that's who you already use??

I've had Karen from Chaskits and sorry to say I would not let her near any of mine again, something I've heard echoed by a number of other people too...

Another vote for Peter Husband, I hope he is okay, he was lovely. Split his 'call out' between 3 of us on the yard and charged me nothing on top as my saddle was just fine. Is not out to sell saddles - at all.

Colin Schilling from Saddle World is excellent but this may be who you are referring to. I hope not as I have used him for quite a while now and found him extremely good.

I agree with Karen @ Chaskits, and have to say that the people at Saddleworld nearly made my mare unrideable with their appalling fitting and checking.

Hi - would highly recommend Richard Spragg (Spragg Saddlery). he will always be totally honest and happily reflock your saddle to fit if at all possible and is never pushy. I know many people who are very happy with the service. Good luck

Colin works independantly from Saddle World and not with the person who I think you are referring to. I have used Colin for several years now and both myself and many others have found him excellent.

i have recently used a lady Sue someone I think ? from The saddlerack in Hawkinge, she was very helpful and although I said i had wanted to buy a new saddle told me what I had was fine, with a bit of adjustment !

Derek bambling is not a society of master saddlers qualified saddle fitter, but Karen or Andrew are good or check society of master saddlers website, there's a list on there! Good luck!
