Im in search for a new dressage saddle and saddler. I want someone who is well recommended and has a huge variety of saddles.
Im currently strugglying to find anyone who has a huge range of saddles, most of the people ive tried have a very small selection of saddles they sell and so I feel I never get the chance to try a good range of saddle makes and styles.
Anyone know of anyone or good saddlerys who let you take saddles out.
I want to try more passiers, keffiers, presitge, those sorts of saddles.

Thanks

I used to work for Pointings in Bath and found them good and honest in their dealings with customers and very knowledgeable all round

The main chaps bedside manner left a bit to be desired but I guess not everyone is good with people - doesnt make them less of a saddler though!

If I had a horse these days I wouldnt hesitate to use them

Sorry but I definately would not use Pointings. Pete was absolutely useless and tried to fit saddles to my horse that even I could see didn't fit but he swore they did. I would never use him again.

Thank you for all your replys. I did used to be with Stroud saddlery, but last time they came out they didnt do the best of jobs, I did have the lady, maybe I should try the guy there.
At least they do have a large range of saddles.
Thanks

I had Lawrence from Stroud fit a saddle for me about ten years ago and he definitly didn't do 'the best of jobs'. The saddle marked my horse and he refused to accept that the saddle he fitted was the problem - funny how the white hairs disappeared with the coat change after I stopped using said saddle.

Lindsay from Cotswold Saddlery in Cirencester, initially I asked for a specific brand of saddle, she fitted it to my horse and about 6 weeks later I realised it didn’t work, it fitted well in most places but because of his shoulder it was too tight, totally my fault as I only asked for that one brand of saddle, called up explained the situation, she came back with about a dozen 2nd hand leather saddles as requested (I couldn’t afford new leather) as I had hardly used the other saddle, she took it back at full price and she only charged me £10 for the travelling to fit the new saddle. Tried lots of saddles on and rode him in four of them, ended up with a second hand Jeffries saddle for £575, a total bargain in my book! Most comfortable thing I have ever sat on! Haven’t had a problem since.

I really rate her, she’s been nothing but helpful, even when my horse disgraced himself in the first saddle fitting by breaking his bridle!

Apart from this thread I have only heard good things about Stroud saddlery, as they were my second choice.

I'am another one for pointings! Peter has always been fantastic with all of my horses and have never had any issues with saddles not fitting even on my last horse who had high withers and liked it to sit in a certain way (not the norm) and peter came out and spent 2 hours taking bits of stuffing in and out with me riding inbetween till my boy was happy with it!! everyone on the yard now uses him too

You must be one of the very few lucky ones. I bought a saddle from him years ago, he wouldnt even come and check it when it arrived and I had to go and collect it myself. Since then I saw him fit saddles to a horse using a thick numnah!

Bargepole springs to mind with him!
