Hi, I need to have my boys saddle checked he is obviously not happy when being tacked up. I am hoping it will be just a case of reflocking as the saddle is only 2 years old. Can anyone recommend, or tell me who to avoid? Area: east Cheshire -Poynton / glossop

Thanks

I use Saddlery services, they're based in Staffordshire but definitely travel over. She will work with what you've got rather than selling a new saddle for the sakes of it.
Personally I found Crewe Saddlery to be very disappointing and only interested in selling you a saddle beyond your budget irrespective of if it fitted or not. I know others have been happy with them though.

I used to use Village Saddle in Warrington but he's always very busy & became expensive. Now use Saddlery Services (Sally).
She's happy to travel although will be more expensive if only.1 person, can make small adjustments if needed during visit.

I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole.

Me neither. Also dont rate Crewe - as someone else said I feel they either try to sell top end saddles or wintecs - the high wither wintec they tried to sell to my cob did not fit.

Village Saddlery in Warrington are great. Expensive but after previous dealings with the above at least I was happy with the saddle that was recommended.

Is the saddlery still open in Chester? The guy there used to be brilliant think his name was Bill and the shop used to be called Chester saddlery.

It's now known as 'The Saddlery' and is owned by a Welsh couple who have another shop in North Wales.
Lovely people, am having them out next month to my youngster, would recommend :)

Haven't heard anything good about Village Saddlery but can't say as never used them myself!

I've had two unsuccessful saddles from Village, wouldn't particularly recommend. Heather "the Saddle Consultant" seems good and isn't hard to get hold of or get out.

Vaughan at Chester Saddlery seems very good, honest and fair. Actually encouraged me to buy the cheaper of the saddles on offer (I was in the market for one for sure) as he said the horse went better in it, even though I was expressing an interest in the more expensive one!

I found this too :) They also let me sit on a number of saddles in the shop before coming out to the yard. I loved the Prestige D1 (eek!) but when we put it on Dan, he only took a few steps and I said I didn't think he liked it. Vaughn immediately said that's fine, if he doesn't like it we'll try a different one! He also wasn't offended when I said I didn't like the Kent & Masters & just let me get on with trying saddles :o :) Still go & visit the shop when I'm in the area, very helpful people.
