Sure it's been done before but really need a new dressage saddle and although happy with local fitter in past, she is a bit limited with the brands she stocks - Jeffries (really don't like them), Albions (always end up with them because they fit me and my horses so far) and Wintec/Bates. She can get hold of Ideal saddles but get the impression it could take a while. Anyway, looking for a new dressage saddle - horse came with an old Albion which is OK but never been as comfy for me as my old Legend (which didn't fit him so sold on:(), and it is no longer a brilliant fit on horse. Would like to find somewhere where I could have a really good choice of brands/fits. Prepared to travel a couple of hours if I will get a really good choice. Any ideas? Thank you:).

By new, do you mean brand new or new to you?

Susan Maxwell from Dumfries fits and sells saddles on for others but I'm not sure if she stocks brand new.

Otherwise have you tried Rideaway close to York or Derby House?

Well tbh I've always bought second hand up til now, but have landed a bit of cash (dont tell the OH :D) so could go for new (bit reluctant in the past as always prefer them to be 'broken in' a bit).

I'm pretty sure that Stirlingshire Saddle Fitters would be in your neck of the woods sometimes?

Did think about them but thought I was maybe a bit too far south for them?! Always see them at the shows that horse isn't at! But do know they are good - do they have a good range of makes?

I use cicely jeffries from national saddle centre at hawick and she came up to nord to fit one, had an awful problem with J and saddles and never had a problem since. She is excellent really thorough fitting.

She only stocks new I think although maybe has a few second hand? She has Albion/ideal/prestige etc I think

She really is great! She spent over 3 hours fitting J ideal impala pro and it's been perfect for him :)

Thanks! Yes, did think of Cicely - a friend up north has used her and was very happy:).

I was about to suggest her :)

I have used Stirlingshire in the past but got so frustrated at waiting around all day for someone to turn up and not hearing from them.
Hopefully it has changed by now but it put me off using them

Oh that's not much good! I keep my lot at home and have no arena, so will need to arrange to hire somewhere so I can actually try the saddles out. And work full time so cannot take a whole day off for someone to not turn up.

Grange saddlery MIGHT come to you not sure though but they have a lovely big indoor arena on site for use during fittings if you have to travel. :) They also have the pressure checking machine (not sure what its called) I think :)

You could hire Nord for saddle fittings? Good thing is if you get national saddle centre they know how to get there -saves on directions!

Yes. will need to hire somewhere as no arena at home. Blackdyke is nearer to me but don't think I would be able to hire it for 3 hours if needed;p.

Thanks:). Unfortunately I think I maybe a wee bit too far from them. What makes of saddles do they have - could only see Wintec on their website?

Wasn't sure where abouts you lived :) That's true!

Yes, suppose we've only seen each other at Nord Vue. I live just between Longtown and Brampton so about 10-15mins from Blackdyke. Very handy for quite a few local venues - just as well as have no facilities at home, unfortunately. My lot have had to be good loaders and travellers:).
