Could do with getting my new cob's saddle check, does anyone know a decent fitter in yorkshire region (I am in huddersfield/wakefield region but have a trailer so can travel for someone good). Someone who does a good line in second hand saddles would be great as a bit skint at the minute.

We used Keith at Fox saddlers in Wetherby to fit our Wow, he was here almost 2 hours and I was very pleased with the final fit.
I think he would go to you, can't be much difference in distance to where you are.
Cost me £57 or thereabouts.

i have been using throstle nest recently , it tends to be easier to get an appointment if you go to them (silkstone , barnsley )

last year when i bought a new saddle for them & went back for it adjusting about 10 weeks later once it had bedded in they were not happy with the fit & changed the saddle for a different size at no extra cost to me

In Drighlington, south of Bradford, nearby the M62 and IKEA, Leeds, is http://www.thetackmansaddler.co.uk/.

If their contact page still doesn't work, you can ask Day's Pet Shop. I don't have their phone number either but it's Whitehall Road in Drighlington, both the pet shop and the saddler.

It had cost £ 60 visiting you with a van full of saddles. If you buy a saddle from them then there is no callout charge.

Throstle Nest for me, excellent service and lovely saddles, quality makes and not stupid prices. Did come out to us when buying new but if you can get there they did have lots of second hand on ones in. Trouble is shop is lovely and you wont come out with just a saddle!

Another Throstle Nest Fan. We've had David out to the yard and taken a horse to the shop. He has a machine now that can alter the tree of some saddles. My friend had her John Whitaker altered to make it wider.

Another vote for tackman saddlers, I have saddles from him for both of mine and they are super. He will check and alter any make of saddle, not just their own.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking maybe David Baxter as he is nearish but maybe check out Fox's as I also have another horse with a Wow saddle that I could do with getting checked as well. The Tackman rings a bell but not sure where I've heard of them before and don't recognise website. I'm not really wanting an expensive saddle as he is a bit fat at the minute so will probably need to be change it again in future when he's losts some weight.

Nic - please dont go local. i can give you the number of my saddle fitter (the tackman), ive got to ring him to come check my girls over so im sure whilst hes around i can fetch him over to your yard.

Hey Farm, they have loads of 2nd hand saddles and I do mean loads! Jo is really helpful and wont sell you a saddle that doesnt fit like I have known another saddler do to many people.
Throstle Nest dont have that many 2nd hand saddles and personally I would only go there if you had someone with you who could check the fit of a saddle.

I'm based in North Yorkshire and use Lizzy at Priory Saddlery in Guisborough.

I couldn't recommend her highly enough. My horse came to me with a lot of problems, all caused by a bad back due to a poorly fitting saddle and Lizzy was instrumental in getting him back on track. They are a little way away for you (though she does travel, I'm not sure how far), but it would be worth a visit - you could always couple it with a ride on the beach at Saltburn!! :@)
