Hi

I Posted last week asking how much normally for a re flocking of the saddle. Thank you for your replys

I own a odd shaped arab, well an arab, saddle fitter came out today, and said he was in pain as very tight all over and that my saddle does not touch him. Arr

My question i knew the saddle was not perfect but the guy who fitted it when i bought it said he would muscel into it. Hes been doing xcross country, jumping, working in a outline. Without any problems for the last four months.

On saturday i took him out on the moors for about 10 miles and he was hyper the whole way, he lives out 24/7 so was washed down and turned out. from then it has rained countinuesly until this morning, with him shivering in the feild (ps i did try and bring him in for a few hours but he did a wall of death around the stable stressing). So I think hes tight for that not the saddle. The Physios coming out this week, just incase.

Question do i get another saddler out, do i keep my saddle or do i get a new one!!!!

very very confused

i'm shocked someone would fit a saddle for the horse to 'grow into'...

are you saying you don't believe the most recent fitter? if that's the case, get another one out. ask around (on here) for recommendations so you get someone you know will be honest with you. good luck! x

Hiya, I am from the tyne valley area, which saddler did you use? pm me if you would rather not post a name. I have had alot of saddle issues and have recently had Lee Clark out due to pony having alot of tension in his sadle area, I am so pleased with the results we have had from one treatment, I now have a relaxed pony again. I have been using a saddler from Conset for the last two years and he has been so good with Moo's ever changing shape.
I hope it's nothing too bad with your boy.

Lots of saddles are fitted with room for the muscle to develop - if it was fitted to the existing shape, the muscle wouldnt be able to develop with the saddle constricting it. Obviously this has to be done incrementally - I am not saying put a wide saddle on a narrow horse.

OP - if you are not happy with current saddler then get another one. As to whether you need a new saddle, see if current tree fits and whether the panels can be adjusted with flocking for your horse's shape.

... we play the saddle fitting game fairly regularly... high whither & sloping back are a bit of a hellish combination, especially if your horse is not prepared to work with an ill-fitting saddle. Anyway, we have 'adjustments' done about every 6 months or so. Ties in nicely with his toothcare regime (the horse that is, not the saddler).

I know that one, my old boy was like that forever changing shape, in one year I bought 2 new saddles both brand new ended up having one made to measure then 5 months later he died *(just cant win) bless him.
clipcloppop - I Got my boys old saddle on my new mare but its not 100% but shes not very fit atm anyway. It fits her withers and top of shoulders but her lower shoulders need to grow out to fit into the saddle, which my Yo said should be fine, she works well so Ill re access that soon.
Aslong as the saddle isnt resting on withers or any pressure points I dont see the problem. aslong as its not on a long term basis.

There is no way the rain will have made him feel tight and sore, that will almost certainly be down to the original saddle not fitting.
If you don't trust your last saddle fitter, then find another and see what they suggest.

Please don't pass me for a idiot ;')

I know the rain won't make him tight and sore by itself.
But going over 10 mile across the moors on a very bouncy hypers joggy horse going over mix ground, with a rider. May allow for tightness and soreness the next day because i was. Then it being cold and raining continuesly with him stood still in the feild shivering (like they do). Will not really have helped. He is extreamly nervy therefor never really relaxed.

The phyiso due, I give him a few days off and then lunge him long and low for a few days to encourage him to strech. See what the physio says. My Confusion. Is if i need a new saddle fair does my bank manager can cry lol. But the current saddle has caused no tightness or soreness before and the past events may have caused yesterday tightness.

I think i'll try another saddle fitter just to make sure aswell. All i was after was a reflock
