What do you do when your saddle fitter tells you your saddle is ok. Then you get a back specialist and equine physiotherapist tell you your saddle doesn't fit correctly and needs adjusting as there are pressure points !! who do you believe ??

what do you think?are there any signs the saddle doesnt fit-ie bumps after riding, horse not going well etc etc. does your fitter and physio watch you ride in said saddle? how reputable is your physio and your fitter? etc etc. my physio would talk to my saddler if needs be as she spoke to my farrier-they work as a team

The saddle fitter was a rep from the company the saddle was made by. Can't find them on the list of registered saddlers. The back specialist is highly thought of in the area by many of my friends and the physiotherapist is well qualified. I got the saddle checked because I thought it wasn't right - I'm fed up of being taken for a ride !! (no pun intended) all I want is whats best for my horse. Unfortunately we are quite remote and do not have many choices of fitters.

Sounds awful but I always get back lady out to check my saddle whether I think its ok or not and it drives me mad that I have to get a second opinion but I don't trust any saddler at all.

I have just had a serious problem with the local saddler who fitted my old saddle to my new baby horse and said it fitted. I didn't believe her and found out that she had told someone it didn't fit at all. I had a huge go at her on Friday and she sent me a cheque for £350 which was £50 refund on reflocking and £300 for saddle she had "lost" of mine which wasn't worth much.

I wouldn't trust a rep from a saddle company. They need to be registered under SMS as saddler fitters. Def. go with back specialist's thoughts. Get a different saddler out.

I had exactly the same, went with what the physio said. Interesting that the saddler you are using is a rep from the saddle company. IME they will tell you the saddle is the perfect, even when it isn't, as they make money from you buying their saddle. If you can use an independant saddle fitter, who has loads of different makes, so you are not tied to one particular brand. I would trust and independant physio, far more than a biased saddle fitter!!!

I had a similar case a few years back - saddle was fitted by master saddler(!) - horse had major problems with back that didn't get any better with new saddle - physio recommended different type of saddle and I went with that it worked wonders... I was angry at the saddler the way the saddle wasn't suitable for my horse and more so the way they dealt with my case when I wished to exchange the saddle that I had newly bought - and have not used their services again since but gone elsewhere...

My friend has just had this happen to her, she bought a nice new expensive saddle from a 'master saddler', the horse played up, she got the vet out and the vet told her it was the saddle so it's gone back to be adjusted, saddler has had it for weeks now too so the horse can't be ridden.
