One for the saddle fitting brigade here - just wondering if the type/style of saddle plays its part when accommodating a xx-wide (or wider) horse, with a rider whose hip/sciatica plays up if riding for more than about 30 minutes.

Are there saddles with somewhat narrower seats/slightly more built up off the horse, for example?

TIA

Building a saddle up away from the horse can make it unstable in many instances, especially on the flat and wide. My solution is to go for a moderately narrow twist where possible (I specialise in fitting the wide and flat and there are many cases where the twist has to be wide and flat!) and a more forward cut flap as riding with shorter stirrups, and avoiding a stirrup bar that is overly set back, will help minimise hip pain.
