I hope this is allowed! I'm not advertising but I'm in need of a good saddle fitter for my little cob and have been had bad experiences with some of the local fitters.

AH saddles have been recommended to me but the fitter needs a few people to make it worth her while to come all the way across the country to the north west!

Is anybody in the area wanting an AH saddle fitted in the next month or so?

And, can anyone recommend any fitters in the north west area? My next port of call was Village Saddlery? Any experiences with them?

Thank you!

Make sure you pay on a credit card with good buyer protection. Know your consumer rights too.

Also don't be blinded by someone claiming to know everything. If you aren't happy, or the horse isn't happy, or it doesn't seem 100% right stand your ground.

Personally I would far rather get a fitter with a wide range of makes to come out and source my own second hand on their recommendations after many sickening experiences where I've found the expert to not be the expert they claimed they were and the saddle never did fit the horse whatever they said (completely wrong tree, too long so nothing to do with the horse changing shape!)

I've used Saddles Direct and Freedom Saddlery who are both excellent at fitting, both of which are not tied solely to one brand which means a far greater choice :).

Thank you both! I've not heard of Freedom Saddlery before and they aren't a million miles away - I will have a look into them as well. :-)

I've heard nothing good from Village Saddlery. It may have changed more recently as I've been out the saddle for 2 years now.
Vaughan at The Saddlery was very good with my pony, he's based N Wales way but does travel.

Steph is brilliant, if busy lol, she's based north wales way but travels all over. She mainly deals in new saddles but is excellent at fitting, if you're looking for second hand then saddles direct is a better bet for choice of saddle.

Where as David at village is the only saddle fitter I would ever use.. he's brilliant (but always late )

I use Vaughan at The Saddlery and I find him brilliant, very thorough, very personable and I have really thrown some funny shaped horses at him and he as always come through and provided me with brilliantly fitting saddles.

Village Saddlery really let me down, sold me a saddle that was very mobile, really annoyed my horse and rubbed her back. Cost me a lot of money and was a miserable experience !

My horse was difficult to fit but in the end I found what I was looking for at Crewe Saddlery
