Having had saddle fitters out in the past and having to pay call out fee, and not alot of choice, is there anywhere in Herts/Beds or even Cambs that i can take horse with daughter to try and test saddles. Iam looking for some one who has a good choice (second hand) to chose from and that can also advise.
I do know of the one near London Colney.
Has anyone been there?
Many thanks

Try Sarah at Gravenhurst Saddlery, Beds - she is always very helpful and has lots of experience - her Mum is a pony club DC and her sister events and they have trial facilities. Anything I have got from there has always been good value for money and the right thing for the job. They are proper horse people - not just people working in a saddlery! Good luck

I take my TB down to Sandon. They have stacks of second-hand saddles - all types and all prices. we tried on 20 GPs last time and 5 WH saddles! The only problem is that there isnt a school. We do it in the car park and then walk down the bridle way to have a bit of a trot! My boy can be very cold backed and a moving saddle can be disasterous but so far so good (i go every 6months).

Before I moved I used Martin Wilkinson's. Good stock (though not as good 2nd hand as sandon admittedly), excellent fitters, school with jumps, poss a bit slow on the customer service side but otherwise very happy with them.

I have used Martin Wilkinson but they have always come to me, I use a lady called Berry who is very nice and knowledgeable.

You can take your horse there and they have a large selection of saddles but I suppose it depends on if they have the one you want in your size in stock at the time, prob best to call in advance so they can see if they have a few for you to try, or she will bring a selection to you.

Couple of liveries where I am have been waiting for second hand saddles from them for a while and have only just got them now also they have had to wait quite a while for a call out so I assume even with recession they are still busy! Anyway I don't have any complaints about them, also hear RB equestrian near Milton Keynes is good but not sure if they do second hand saddles.

Hi- I would also recommend Martin Wilkinson or Berry, who I used and I was very happy with. I also thought their follow up service was very good (they re stuffed my saddle for free after I had had it for 6 months).

I never took my horse there but I understand that you can and they have good facilities and a good choice.

martin wilkinson good but can be pricey... tack haven in caddington but not sure of range - you can go there and save call out fee tho.
