Having recently bought a new horse, I had to buy a saddle for him, and bought a second hand leather one. As he is only 4 I didnt want to spend a huge amount as he's going to grow over the next couple of years (KWPN warmblood and I think they are late (ish) to mature). I spent £450. He was fine for a few weeks but then started to fidgit and put his head up when putting on the saddle. (Not normal as he tends to almost fall asleep when putting bridle on). He has muscled up a bit and is on v good grass so is prob a bit fatter too, oooopps! But I thought the saddle was a bit tight down his shoulders, so I have had it altered and rode him in it tonight, but I'm still concerned that it may still be too tight over his shoulders. I'm pretty sure its not too far forward as have asked, but my main question is how do I tell if its too tight and digging in? Also, the saddle fitter didnt ask to see me ride in it, which I would have thought was important? If he is still a bit sore from it previously digging in should I wait a few more days to see if this goes away before riding him in it? I am considering getting a second opinion about its fit but am unsure who else to try? (Don't want to mention fitter in case I get knuckles rapped!) So does any one have any recommendations for the Somerset/Dorset/ Devon border area.
I have booked the back person to come too, but thats in about 10 days time. (Teeth just done and fine and passed 5 stage vetting less than 2 months ago.)
