I got my mare in February and had her fitted with a saddle by a local saddler. It is a Stubben RC Seigfried Monoflap and at first we got on very well.
Back in the summer, after unsaddling I noticed a small lump just to left of my mare's spine. It disappeared after 10 minutes, but I could see no reason for it. The next day I paid extra special attention to saddlecloth placing etc, but we had the same thing again. I found a small ridge in the flocking of her saddle so got the saddler out.
The saddler removed a small kink of leather from my saddle which left the flocking perfectly smooth. She advised me to get a prolite front riser pad as she had changed shape slightly and she felt that would be sufficient to get the saddle fitting nicely again.
Anyhow I rode her again, lump came back again. I rang her and she said that her back may have become sensitised in the area where the bump was and to give it a while.
Anyhow this was all in August andc I have kept at it under her advice and last week lo & behold, no lump. So it took a while but now nothing is coming up at all.
Does anyone else have any experience of this happening? It all seems a bit strange to me. Almost like her back has instinctively been raising the bump in the area of previous trauma/discomfort. But I don't see how that can happen.
She is a very honest mare and never changed attitude under saddle and also never showed any signs of pain when I poked about with the bump.
Would this be a feasible conclusion to make? That is was due to the previous problem? As you can probably tell it's been on my mind!
