hi

i just wondered how you can tell if a saddle fits well, obviously you should be able to see daylight between gullet all way down horses back etc but anything else??

The seat should be balanced, sitting level when viewed on the horse....not leaning back at the cantle, or forwards at the pommel.

The panels should scurf evenly along the horse's coat...making contact all the way along from pommel to cantle.

You should be able to run you fingers under the front of the saddle from top to bottom when girthed up....it shouldn't pinched behind the shoulders.

The saddle shouldn't sit longer than the last rib on your horse's back and it shouldn't bounce up and down at the cantle when you are rising in trot.

There are lots of things really and these are just a few things the saddler pointed out to me some years ago. Obviously, I'm not a qualified saddler though. If you're concerned about the fit of your saddle, I thouroughly recommend you get a professional to check it out for you.
