Hi I’m looking for recommendations on saddles that tend to fit 12h BRP’s I’m about to purchase a 4yr old that was lightly backed last year for my kids. My youngest had a Shetland years ago and used a Zoe Snape now she’s 13 (wears age 10 clothes, she’s tiny) she really does need to have a saddle rather than a pad. I know all horses/ponies are different but just wondering what brands and styles tend to fit. He’s fairly compact and flat across the back at the moment and I’m sure in a few months of work and strengthening he will change shape and need another or have what we get adjusted. Any help would be greatly appreciated, our local fitter doesn’t hold pony saddles so it would mean taking him out to somewhere. He’s never travelled before either so ideally want to avoid that til we build and bond with him and he trusts us etc

Black Country or Fylde but the tree will depend on whether your BRP is a finer build or a stockier build and how much of a wither as they can vary a lot. I would suggest looking for another fitter local to you

Thank you, I had a feeling this would be the answer. I may have to look in to saddlers that travel further afield and who could come out and have a proper look.

I liked Fylde Emma saddles for my ponies, I found they fitted nicely. The Emma gives more support than the Hayden and I found the Samantha jabbed every single pony in the shoulder.

The Emma was designed as a cradle stakes saddle so will also cope at low level pony club stuff.

For a more forward cut try Ideals.

I love the look of the Black Country Poppy but found they tilted the riders. The BC Classic may be better.

Fylde will alter to template by post but I’ve found meeting them at a show (not always with pony) makes it easier to get across any special requirements.

I did find a Fylde recommended fitter locally once which was a godsend
