Looking for recommendations for saddles for my very wide and flat backed Highland. What do other Highland owners find good for pony and rider? She really is like sitting on a tabletop.
At the moment she has a Heather Moffett treeless which we broke her in last year and which she has always seemed comfortable in and has suited us. Since she has been doing a bit more we have been having problems with the saddle slipping to the side and today my OH slipped right off (long story which luckily ended with no harm done). I can't risk this happening again and am looking for either a solution to the slipping or, more likely, a new saddle.
Recommendations gratefully received.

throwgood t4 cob, i had xxw wide then i managed to get some weight off him and he got a new one, t4 xw more exercise and weight management he is now in a wide, older gfs style. thorwgoods all the way!

Ideal Highland and cob saddle. Designed specifically for highland ponies. We can't move for highland ponies round here and all of them have Ideals.

Thorowogood saddles are lovely but they're far too narrow for the very flat, wide highlands.

Where abouts are you in Scotland? I have a brandnew H&C saddle for sale which I'm about to give to the local tack shop, who will put a large commision on the price I want.........

saddle company verona gets my vote

really? My friend tried one (a Cob version) for her highland and just couldn't get it wide enough. Once it was adjusted to the 'correct' width, the tree became far too curved :(

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Much appreciated.
I do love Jeffries saddles, abigail621, and have a M/W on my hafi but it wouldn't be nearly wide enough for my Highland. Have wondered about an XW.
Kallibear I'm up in Aberdeenshire so not very near you unfortunately. I had thought of an Ideal H&C actually as I read about those a while ago in connection with Highlands, so interesting to get these recommendations.
Will have to get a fitter out and see what's on offer.
Thanks heaps to you all. It's great to get others' opinions.

If its any help, I had my flat backed Haffy fitted for an Ideal and a Thorowgood cob and the Ideal H&C she was XW but the Thorowgood she was XXW. Just to give you an idea.

We have thee thorowgood but would go for an Ideal as well if we had the ££££

Same experience here more or less, in fact the SC fitter said there was no way one would fit him before she even started!. He has a T4 in XXW.
