Hi - my TB ex racer has pretty high withers - made worse at the moment by his lack of a decent top line, which will come with time. None of my saddles fit; Antares, (I have several, traditional and close fit), Jeffries, Stubben and an old hunting saddle all press on the wither. Which brand do you recommend or have found a good effective fit, for a high withered horse ? I am calling a good sale fitter, but just wondered what others have found ?

hi my friends just bought a farrington for her high withered tb, i had a high head tb albion for mine, both give loads of wither clearance.:)

I have kieffer for mine, but I understand that the thorowgood high wither T4 is a good option. Iknow that a few on here also rate the kent and masters range

I've just brought a T4 High Wither Thorowgood for my high wither TB, if I'd have had the extra cash I'd have got the Kent & Masters High Wither which is basically the T4 saddle but in leather, they take the same changeable gullets too. My TB not only has high withers but not much topline either at the mo so the deep saddle gussets sit really well on his back where most other shallower gussetted saddles fail.

Have tried many many saddles on my tb and the only one that has fitted her perfectly is her current dressage saddle which is Morris and Nolan.

She has very high and prominent withers and a dippy back.

The only saddle that fit mine was a thorowgood griffin high wither. He lacks topline too, has little muscle but slowly improving. Plently of wither clearanance with this saddle :)

T4 High Wither Thorowgood - THIS!!

My horse has a shark fin of a wither and it fits lovely. I also find it a really comfy saddle to ride in as does anyone who's had a ride on my boy.

Mark Fisher fitted mine and because of my boys very big wither he asked Thorowgood to stuff it with slightly harder stuffing. So it's sort of made to measure!

Thorowgood T8 GP for my high withered, short coupled, lacking top line TB.

The T8 (rare as rocking horse poo so mine had to come off the production line and took 6 weeks) is a hybrid - leather seat and rolls, synthetic panels. a good halfway house between the all synthetic and the K&M, and built for odd shaped horses. I tried a K&M but preferred the T8 - he went better in it, too, for some bizarre reason. I spoke with T'good and they said the T8 was not an exact replica, it differed in the panels.

My ex racers has a Kent and Masters high withered gp. Saddler recommended it because it has and adjustable gullet meaning once his toplline built up the bar could be changed

T6 with gullet one size wider and thin fish insert. The fish firm up the top of the panel and also prevent any pressure from the gullet fixing bolt heads.
I am not sure if the T8 L8 still have fish pockets.

My height withered ID x TB has an Albion legend dressage saddle. The pommel is square cut and allows space for the withers - its also really comfy. My friend has an Albion jump for her high withered tb x shire. Both these horses are usually really difficult to fit. Believe it or not it also fits her gelding who has an 'ideal' shaped back. Also really comfy and recommended :)
