Saddle for Cob HELP!!!!

Hi,
Hope somebody can help me out here!! Basically, I have a 6 year old cob who is absolutely lovely. We jump, hack, and do a little dressage as well. However, we have had a serious problem with him not going forward, and occasionally being a bit of a bucking bronco :p. We seem to have identified A reason why he might be doing this which is his back. We had somebody come out to look at him who is both a vet and a back specialist and he identified a major problem in his back.
He has basically said that he needs a nice, light saddle that fits him that we can do everything in, and I was just wondering if anyone can recommend anything and also anyone in the Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire area who won't just try and sell me the most expensive saddle but will actually find the right thing for my boy.

I've had the same problems and have spent around £2.5k over 5 years and 3 saddle fitters. I was told by one that the only saddle he would fit to my horse was an Amerigo Vega dressage costing £2,300. I think I may have found the answer to my problem, not the cheapest saddle around but a revelation when I tried it - no movement, even with a loose girth and my boy could move his shoulders. Really depends on his back shape. Really heavy wide cobs can be rally difficult to fit.

Whilst he's recovering I'd go for a treeless saddle. He's most likely to have muscle damage so he's going to change shape. A GOOD treeless (the cheap ones of ebay are cheap and crap for a reason!) will cost you #300 or so second hand, up to #700 for the most expensive, but they will resell for nearly that later.

Once she's finished healing then you could look at tree'd saddles. Throwogood make an excellent cob saddle (lightweight too). Wintecs Cob saddle is an ok fit on not-particularly-wide cobs but do come up very long. Ideal make excellent cob saddle too.
 
I have a kent and masters GP for my cob with changable gullet, as he is prone to changing shape with seasons. As your horse is only young and may change you may be wiser getting something like this. It is very light and not that expensive. I did have a saddle co leather saddle with synthetic bottom half for cold backed horses when I first got my horse, it did him the world of good! I must admit I always tack up and leave my horse for 10mins before mounting to help their muscles, it might help in the interim with your horse. Good luck!

I have a Thorowgood Cob xw with fish to 'get rid' of if thats what you are looking for. I am in Gloucestershire.
 
Hi don't know if u have already sorted saddle I used Andy the saddleman he is based in shrewsbury Difficult to get in touch with but would recommend told him about our boy who is 4 1/2 & he recommend a synthetic saddle for him saying that it would be a waste of money buying anything else He was very thorough & also can do repairs & adjustments - google the saddle man and u will find him x
 
you dont have to spend lots - when i bought my monthly changing shape cob his saddle was attrocious - i bought a cheap treeless saddle to try, its still going brilliantly - no slips, no worries about the fit - i bought a fabulous sheepskin pad with it - excellent , my horse has come on in leaps and bounds x
 
Ideal Working Hunter - I have A and C totally different wides and these saddles fit beautifully. You can do dressage, show and jump in them and they are very comfy.

I have the Kent and Masters cob gp saddle (it is the leather version of the Thorowgood cob saddle), I had similar problems to you with my horse being uncomfortable and bucking. She goes really nicely in this saddle and it has changeable gullets so I can change it if/as she changes shape.
