Hello H&H. I'am after a saddle for a friends horse. He is 15hh no withers and round. Like a rubber ball...lol Wanted to know whats the best make of saddle for a horse like him? Not to pricey as she knows he will change shape, being only 4. Thankx for your help. x

I don't think it matters what make. As long as you find one that is comfortable. I have found Bates are good for no whithered Welsh Cobs and so would recommend.

I don't like the rigind Wintec Wides... avoid if poss. Have found the cantle panels dig into the back and bridge terribly.

Good luck... just find a really good saddler.

I find the synthetic close contact type saddles fit these shape of horses better than the 'cob' designed ones.

To be honest its trial and error, my saddler after alot of searching managed to find a nice farringdon ( or however you spell it!! ) - older style saddle but it does the trick for showing.

I have just bought a Kent and Masters for my rolypoly 4 year old - it has changeable gullets so hoping it will do as he changes shape. So far so good - and he is truly round.

Kent and Master or thorowgood would be a good place to start.(same saddle, one leather, other synthetic). I'd steer clear of wintec/Bates(same saddle, different material) as i've never seen them fit flat horses due to their banana tree.

Also Saddle Company and Ideal Highland and Cob saddle

Oh really? I thought they were just made in the same place. The ones I mentioned are very different... one is leather and fits perfectly... the other is hideous and a poor example of a synthetic saddle - not banana shaped at all... more like a plank of wood.
