Have a look at Wow saddles. Not only can you use a size shorter panels for the size of seat but the are fully adjustable and can change as your youngster does. They are a bit 'marmite' - love em or hate em but I would not ride in anything else and mine has been on a wide variety of horses including my friesan x Andalusian very short backed well sprung 5yo.

Exactly what romulus said. My Luso x is also very short backed. I ended up getting him a WOW so he has 16" panels for him and a 17" seat for me! No other normal saddle fitted properly. Love it. Also, the flaps allow the shoulder to pass under them, rather than in normal saddles where often they sit behind the shoulder so it sort of bangs into it pushing the saddle back (my last non-WOW was dreadful for slipping backwards on him because his big shoulder action pushed it there).

I have a 3.5 yr old andalusian and I got a prestige GP, this can be adjusted as he grows.

I do also like the wow saddles but couldn't find a fitter here in Ireland.
