Hi all, was hoping people could recommend me a saddle for my sj mare (ive not a huge budget). She is a compact tb x welsh d powerhouse! I had been using a narrow/med (more tb build but with welsh muscle lol) that was fine until she got fit, im struggling to find a saddle that gives her enough shoulder room now, if anyone has a horse of this type build and could recommend me a saddle that would be great!

A saddler is the best person to advise as style and fit vary so much, I am surprised that she wears a narrow/med saddle as most native cross types have a fairly wide barrel and even with a fairly high wither would need something wider.
I had a very fine welsh sec b x tb 15. 1 , he was never fat and looked as if he needed a narrow fit but actually was in an extra wide by the time he was mature and in hard work.

You really need to get someone to bring you a selection to try so you can find what suits you as well as the horse.

I had the narrow/med fitted to her by specialist when first bought her (it was from her second hand stock, so perhaps had moulded slightly more med than narrow??) but as her work load/training has progressed she has obvs changed shape. She isnt your typical native x, she looks more fine boned truer (excuse my poor spelling!) tb than some of the racers i work with lol, the only give away is her well toned jumping muscles lol hence why the saddle still seems to fit up top but i think it is now not enough for her shoulders and the physio i have who does regular massages on the 'herd' said the same, so really not sure what to look for and try before having to pay out for specialist again, so wandered if anyone knew of any makes that are good for the wider shoulder???

Id be looking at summat thats ajustable to give you the best fit.

I swear by TG saddles had them for all my horses over the last 6 years or so and love how I can change the saddle to fit the horse rather inexpensively :)

My girl is Welsh X ? but possibly anglo arab looking at her. Apart from her colouring and huge Welsh feet, everything else is narrow and tubular. She has very high withers and a narrow girth (but a good chest width and strong shoulders). I have a Derby House WH saddle and that fitted her well -she is retired now. My saddler advised me to use girth straps 2 and 3 to give a little extra room at the front for her shoulders to move freely and I've stuck with that.
