I bought a new saddle on saturday from the local master saddler.
Fitted perfectly on Saturday.
I went xc on Sunday and after a while the saddle was slippling from side to side.

The saddler did say it would need re flocking in a few weeks but surely after a days riding it shouldn't be slipping that much.

I will call them out (closed on Mondays)

But is it quite normal for a new saddle to change shape so quickly?

When you say it fitted perfectly, did you jump in it? And go a bit faster? Did you use the same girth and girthing straps as on saturday? Numnah?

Going xc will really test the fit because of drops, hills, speed, lots of jumping, etc. So if its not quite right going xc will definatey show it up. And if anything like girth/numnah, etc changed then that can make a big difference too

I didn't jump in it when I tried it and didn't use a numnah when I tried it either. Have used the same girth though.

I did expect it to need re flocking...but not so flipping soon.

I did put the saddle through its paces yesterday!

As long as you used a thin numnah that shouldnt affect the fit but the fitter should have seen you jump in it if thats what you were going to do with it. If you couldnt/wouldnt for any reason then thats not the fitters fault though. Definately speak to him/her tomorrow and tell them the problem.

I was advised to use my relatively new saddle for a couple of weeks before jumping in it, though I did also jump in it while it was fitted but only did SJ, it then had a slight reflock after 4 weeks as he came to fit the other horse anyway.

Just tried it again and its definately not right.

Are saddle fitters usually quite good at sorting problems or should I expect some hassle from them?
