Okay. OH has given me the go ahead to buy a saddle (if I save half he'll pay half).

I want something adjustable as I hope to take Magic out for a few rides when J is in school (the only time I'll get a look in

), but I also want something I can change if I ride another horse etc.

I love the look of the caledonian. Especially as it comes in brown (and good price too). I sort of like wintecs but they hurt my back after a while, and I like thorowgoods but can't get my head round the whole Fish thing

. As far as I can see there's more scope for change in the wintec than the caledonian.

A friend has a caledonan we're going to try, but I'd like opinions from those who have tried either. Or if anyone can explain the Fish system and tell me if it allows much scope for change?

My understand was that the FISH alter the saddle one tree size i.e. Medium tree saddle + 1 FISH =Medium/narrow and with the thicker FISH = Narrow.

Thus Wide can be adjusted to Medium Wide or Medium.

If that makes any sense at all!!!

The way the Fish system works on the Thorowgood saddles is by narrowing the saddle, so you get the saddle to fit without fish when he is at his widest say end of summer, so then when he is at his leanest in early spring the saddle will be using the fish, they have now come out with the Thorowgood T4 3D saddle which has the fish system of the original T4 but also has changable gullet bars, similar to the Wintec. They are easier to change than the Wintec, and have 4 securing screws in the gullet bar, so the plates dont come undone as some of the Wintecs do.
My customers are very satisfied with them.
They are also bringing out a T6 3D leather look saddle in the next month which also has the changable gullet bars.
