Hi,
I am having trouble with my boy's saddle. He is a 15hh typical cob (wide with a short back), and I am "curvy" (I take a dress size 16).
He came with a 16inch saddle, but that was way too small for my large derrière and thighs!
I currently have his in a 18 inch Wintec 2000 with Cair, but despite being told that it fitted by an experienced friend, I have now been told that it is too long for him as it sits over his last rib.
I am going to get a saddler out, but does anyone know of any not too expensive types of saddle that cater for a large bum but aren't too long for his back?
Thanks in advance

How about a 17.5inch wide fitting saddle, mine is a 17.5 farrington in wide fitting and has a very comfy wide seat. I would suggest getting a second hand saddle fitter to bring you a big selection and fit one properly for you, it gives you peace of mind that it fits then and any change of shape etc and they should sort it for you (my lady restuffed mine then added more flock as needed when it had settled).

You can't use a wide fitting saddle because it suits your bum, it must fit th horses back first.

I agree in gettng a sadle fitter out with a selection of saddles to try. Would highly recommend Thorowgood, but only,of course,if they fit your horse

Yes Donkeymad I agree about the fitting but she said it was for a cob and my horse is very wide so I wasn't suggesting just getting one to fit the rider. It has to be comfortable for both.

saddle fitter prob wont be interested (not enough profit) but do look at Thorowgood cob saddles, excellent and inexpensive, made me get over my synthetic prejudice. My pone is only 14.2 so couldnt have more than a 16 inch saddle but I still fit my size 14-16 behind on it happily. Adjustable bits too and 4 girth straps which really help to stop saddle slipping.
