Just had a little 16inch adjustable wintec fitted to one of our ponies but it is lifting at the back about 1-2 cm up in rise and trot and I am not happy with it. Saddle fitter was happy with it 2 weeks ago & pony is constantly changing shape. Ive used the same fitter for years and never ever had a problem with any of his fittings.. Problem is pony very short backed and quite difficult to fit a saddle to & we went for an adjustable as he was out of work before coming to us so we knew he was going to change a lot. Saddle looks as though it fits like a glove while he's standing and walking but in trot it moves so something is definitely not right. Any advise please?

I have recently had a saddle fitter out to check my wintec and its also lifting at the back in trot. Mine is doing this because it needs reflocking. Unfortunately the tree in my wintec is fractured ( a common problem in older wintecs apparently) so I need a new saddle.

It was re-flocked 2 weeks ago.. But said pony has definitely changed shape so maybe that's it! I will ring saddler today to ask him to check it again

That's what I'm thinking shysmum.. He wasn't happy last night in trot so definitely think something's wrong.. I took it off him & his little rider rode him bare back & he was happy & put him on the lunge & he was fine so definitely a saddle issue I think x

Well Shy actually got me off, as the saddle was pinching around his withers. Of course I felt absolutely terrible as a mum, but he's changed shape recently as his muzzle is off. :o I'm now riding in my treeless and he's happy as larry.

What I've been told is that the gullet is too wide, hence the saddle sinking at the front and pinching, and lifting at the back. I have the next two gullets down to try, and tried a front riser pad, but that was hopeless.

Hmm, sticking with the Barefoot for now.

Yeah I have a riser to try today but will be ringing saddler anyway.. Poor little fella always wants to please so something is definitely wring

My 13.2 lost 11kgs, a saddle fit and 2cms off her wither in three weeks. This happened so often the solution was a Prolite pad with adjustable shims to keep her in work. Otherwise we have had no saddle because every time the fitter got it adjusted she had changed again dramatically. Now she has been in work 6 months she has stabilised somewhat and doesn't need the Prolite.

Had similar prob with a pony we had. Trouble with older model Wintecs is the panels are banana shaped so tend to rock if that makes sense. Think Wintec have altered this in the newer models. We ended up getting a treeless saddle for our pony which sat nicely on his back rather than being perched above it.

Saddler came out to my mare today and our saddle was doing the same, mares changed shape by about 1cm but it was enough to cause the saddle to lift and perch me forward.

With a horse changing shape that much you would most likely be better of with a cair saddle it's a little bit more forgiving than a flock and will adjust itself to a small degree as the pony does and once you have the right inserts you will be able to change it yourself.

Well I have a little update.. Managed to get hold of saddler yesterday, took ponies rug off & he couldn't believe how much he had changed in 3 weeks. He said that he fitted the saddle into the dip on the ponies back but now the dip has gone & he has top line the saddle is now rocking. It's an adjustable wintec but he said that it's now the wrong shape for him & he was reluctant to attempt to fit the wintec as he said the only way was to have a narrow gullet but that would make the saddle clamp down on the withers. He advised me to look for a Thorogood pony club saddle so my search continues!
