Hi All,

Bought a new horse just over 2 months ago. had a saddle fitter our within the first week and got a equipe synergy fitted but she only had brand new and now second hands available . so she told me the size and model etc and i bought one privately. she caveated herself and rightly said she cant guarantee it hasnt been altered etc . Move on a month into Jan and my saddle pad and sheepskin half pad kept slipping out behind the saddle. i tried a thicker memory foam half pad to tide me by until saddle fitter came . with the thicker half pad the saddle pad stayed in place which indicated the saddle was too wide .
Saddler came out last fri and agreed mine was now too wide . got an equipe expression fitted as a slightly different tree shape which suited him better . i jumped him on sun with the sheep skin half pad as a well as a normal thin saddle pad and the pad and cloth went sliding back again! (fitter said there is enough room for me to add in a sheep skin half pad)

my understanding is the the saddle should stay in place no matter what if it truly fits! so do i get her back out and say we need to find another saddle or do i try some of those non slip pads or a different girth? in fairness, my girth is pretty straight cut and he doesnt have much of a girth groove so not sure if i need to try something else?

My saddle fitter always makes me ride in the saddle initially with nothing under it to ensure there is no bridging and then with a pad under it. You are right it should fit no matter what. There is something amiss if it is still moving ☺
i cant decide if it's the pad or cloth making it move. when i rode in same pad and cloth in his old saddle the sheep skin pad and cloth slipped right back. when i rode in the same pad but with the thicker memory foam pad , nothing moved. when i rode in the new saddle with the same cloth and sheep skin it slipped right back again.
also, this is just when jumping, it doesnt seem to move when doing flat work and hacking etc

What about riding just with your sheepskin pad alone and see if it moves and then try the saddle cloth alone and see if it moves. It can be just a bad combination of material sometimes.
